Job Title: Oilfield Lab Technician (Night Shift)

Department: Technology

Reports To: VP of Data Technology

Location: Midland, TX

Job Summary

The Oilfield Lab Technician (Night Shift) is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory analyses and testing procedures to support oilfield operations. This position focuses on quality control of production samples (oil, water, etc.), conducting friction flow loop experiments, maintaining laboratory facilities, preparing sample solutions, and analyzing water samples.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Control Testing:
  • Collect and analyze production samples (oil, water, etc.) to ensure they meet quality specifications.
  • Conduct routine tests such as pH, viscosity, conductivity, solids content, and other relevant parameters.
  • Document and report test results in a clear and organized manner.
  • Friction Flow Loop Operation:
  • Set up and operate friction flow loops to simulate field conditions.
  • Test the effectiveness of friction reducers and other flow-enhancing chemicals.
  • Collect and analyze data to optimize chemical treatment programs.
  • Water Analysis:
  • Perform basic water analysis, including ion chromatography, hardness, alkalinity, and other relevant tests.
  • Interpret water analysis results to identify potential scaling or corrosion issues.
  • Laboratory Maintenance:
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace.
  • Calibrate and service laboratory equipment according to established schedules.
  • Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and chemicals.
  • Sample Preparation:
  • Prepare samples for various testing procedures (dilution, filtration, extraction, etc.).
  • Create custom chemical blends or solutions based on established formulas.

Qualifications

  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting within the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience with friction flow loop operation is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures.
  • Excellent record-keeping and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in basic scientific calculations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Safety-conscious with strict adherence to laboratory protocols.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry moderate weights (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals.
