Salary : $33,657.84 - $38,706.52 Annually Location : Winston-Salem, NC Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 08298 Department: Board of Elections Opening Date: 08/15/2025 Closing Date: 8/25/2025 11:59 PM Eastern General Statement of Duties The Forsyth County Board of Elections is seeking an organized, motivated, and adaptable individual to fill the position of Office Assistant. The selected candidate will primarily assist the Voter Registration Manager with processing voter registration applications, maintaining an accurate voter registration database, and ensuring compliance with statutory list maintenance procedures. This position operates under the regular supervision of the Director and Deputy Director. * This position is being re-posted, if you have previously applied you do not need to re-apply to be considered. Distinguishing Features The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: General knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods, and practices. Strong knowledge of personal computer hardware and software, including their use and application. Ability to manage workflow efficiently and accurately while adhering to North Carolina election laws. General knowledge of and ability to use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar. General knowledge of office accounting and record keeping procedures. Ability to use a variety of office equipment as required by the position. Ability to type with accuracy at the speed required by the position. Ability to use courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties. Ability to screen communications based on predetermined guidelines in order to respond or route proper destination. Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, departments, county officials, and the public. Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from high school or GED and one year of office/clerical experience. Prior experience in elections preferred. A higher education level may be considered for part of the experience. Special Requirements Selected candidate will be required to successfully pass a more stringent criminal background check per N.C.G.S. § 163-27.2(f): A county board of elections shall require a criminal history record check of all current or prospective employees of the county board of elections, as defined in G.S. 163-37.1(a)(1), who have or will have access to the statewide computerized voter registration system maintained under G.S. 163-82.11 and for any additional position or function as the State Board may designate. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date voter registration records by processing applications received via fax, mail, or in person.
  • Assisting voters by providing professional and courteous service over the phone and in person regarding voter registration procedures, voting information, and election-related inquiries.
  • Assisting with the issuance of voter ID cards, including registration verification, photo capture, and card production.
  • Collaborating with other departments, counties, and the State Board of Elections to ensure fair and accurate elections for the voters of Forsyth County.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and a strong work ethic by contributing to any and all projects undertaken by the Board of Elections as needed. Maintain flexibility in response to evolving priorities, policies, and regulations, ensuring seamless support in a dynamic environment.
