Job SummaryJOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist, CertifiedWORK DAYS: REPORTS TO: Principal and Senior Director of Special Education FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently licensed by the Alabama State Board of Occupational Therapy Certified by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Knowledge of current federal and state regulations, local school system policies and procedures pertaining to special education
  • Knowledge of educational and medical disabilities of students
  • Ability to work an eight (8) hour day
  • Ability to follow oral and written instruction
  • Ability to work independently with or without supervision
  • Knowledge of safety rules in the work place
  • Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and perform effectively as a team member
  • Assume reasonable job-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor in order to meet the needs of the department
  • Knowledge of major theories, intervention strategies, and peer-reviewed research documenting their effectiveness and the ability to relate that knowledge to the educational implications for students
  • Organizational skills as they relate to documentation, scheduling and time management
  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Enable students to fully participate in his/her educational environment
  • Assist in students achieving needed functional skills for current and further education, employment, and independent living
  • Analyze tasks relative to areas of occupation, performance skills, activity demands, contexts, and student factors to implement the intervention plan
  • Recognize occupational performance deficits in the areas of personal care, student role/interactive skills, play, community integrating, and written communication
  • Select, adapt, and sequence relevant occupations and purposeful activities that support intervention goals
  • Select/administer appropriate assessment tools and interpret/report evaluation results correctly
  • Participate in group decision making and planning of appropriate intervention strategies
  • Integrate related services to support the student's educational goals or accommodations/ modifications
  • Plan, develop, implement, evaluate, and modify activities for student centered therapeutic intervention within the educational program
  • Document intervention results and progress toward IEP goals and communicate this information to the student's IEP team
  • Effectively communicate (in writing and orally) and work in teams with educational personnel, administrators, parents and students
  • Continue professional growth, and maintain confidentiality, and professional ethics
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • PHYSICAL REOUIREMENTS:
    • Walk, and stand 85% of the work shift
    • Stoop, bend, twist, turn, and reach on a regular basis
    • Adequate strength, dexterity, and agility to perform all tasks assigned
    • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs
