Job DescriptionNursery Supervisor, PRT WashingtonWe are currently seeking to fill an existing vacancy on our team.PRT Washington is seeking a Nursery Supervisor to manage daily operations for both bareroot and container seedling production, annually growing 28 million seedlings. You'll assist the Nursery Manager in strategic planning and implementation across all phases, from seed stratification and field preparation to planting, crop management, harvest, and logistics. This role offers the chance to make a tangible impact on the future of forests from our beautiful North Carolina location.What will YOU be doing as a Nursery Supervisor?
- Assist the Nursery Manager with strategic planning and implementation of seed stratification, field preparation, fertilization, soil fumigation, and planting.
- Oversee all cultural activities for quality seedling production, including irrigation, pesticide/fertilizer applications, and inventories.
- Manage fall harvest and logistics, including finalizing inventories, coordinating with contract labor, and ensuring strong customer communications.
- Maintain all nursery equipment, buildings, and grounds to prevent downtime and foster good housekeeping.
- Communication & Culture: Foster strong working relationships by communicating with honesty, respect, and a spirit of teamwork.
QualificationsWhat YOU bring to the tableWe're looking for a dedicated leader with a passion for horticulture and sustainable practices:
- A bachelor's degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of pine seedling nursery/agricultural operations, equipment, irrigation, soil fertility, and pesticides.
- Strong team leadership and people management experience.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer-driven and oriented, with a strong work ethic and dedication to safety and excellence.
Previous experience is required, but we are open to individuals with previous transferable skills such as: forestry, or greenhouse management, silviculture, arboriculture, orchard management, plant propagation, landscaping, or field research would be highly valuable.
