Job Title: Nurse Aide Clinical Instructor FLSA Status: Non-ExemptJob Summary The Nurse Aide Clinical Instructor will supervise and evaluate students as they practice skills in the classroom and clinical setting. The clinical instructor will assist students to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to care for patients and clients. The clinical instructor will assist students to gain mastery in skill competency, clinical reasoning and professional practice. The clinical instructor is responsible for creating a supportive environment for student learners and delivering quality content area instruction. The clinical instructor will also assist the lead instructor in all aspects of classroom, skills lab and clinical settings.Essential Duties
  • Meet with each student to evaluate their clinical experience, and provide each student with suggestions for improvement and review progress.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the clinical site and work in collaboration with the Nurse Aide Program Coordinator and facility staff to provide appropriate clinical assignments, experiences, and skill competencies per the Nurse Aide course curriculum.
  • Provide pre and post conferences daily with students on clinical days.
  • Maintains OSHA, HIPAA and regulatory requirements in all clinical settings.
  • Follow the Nurse Aide program requirements as required by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
  • Maintains accurate records of student's attendance in the clinical setting and skills assessments.
  • Ensure that students treat residents, families and other members of the healthcare team with respect and compassion.
  • Supervises students and remains on site during the clinical experience.

Job Specifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities, who are otherwise qualified, to perform the essential functions.Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required) Hold a current, unrestricted Virginia license or Multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse Registered nurses must have at least one year of direct client geriatric care experience Licensed practical nurses must have at least two years of direct client geriatric care experience Prior to being assigned to teach in a nurse aide education program, all instructional personnel shall demonstrate competence to teach adults or high school students by one of the following:
  • Satisfactorily completion of 12 hours of course work that includes (basic principles of adult learning, teaching methods and tools for adult learners, evaluation strategies and measurement tools for assessing student learning outcomes; review of current regulations for nurse aide education programs; review of board-approved nurse aide curriculum content; and review of the skills evaluated on the board-approved nurse aide certification examination or
  • Experience in teaching the curriculum content and skills evaluated on the board-approved nurse aide certification examination to adults or high school students; and knowledge of current regulations for nurse aides and nurse aide education programs
  • In order to remain qualified to teach the nurse aide curriculum, instructional personnel shall complete a refresher course every three years that includes a review of regulations for nurse aides and nurse aide education programs and skills evaluated on the board-approved nurse aide certification exam
  • Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school.
