Job Description :

Provides health care services using radionuclides to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs nuclear medicine procedures, and related techniques producing images for the interpretation by, and at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Has demonstrated competence to perform venipuncture.
  • In agreement with NYSDOH part 16. Ionizing Radiation and hospital policies and procedures, prepares calculates, identifies and administers Radioactive Isotopes as prescribed by our RML and licensed practitioners. Knowledge of composition and stability of radiopharmaceutical, modes of radioactive decay, and an understanding of dosimetry. Prepares proper medications as adjuncts including all documentation and worksheets.
  • Knowledge of / practice of radiation safety, (ALARA). Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others. Participates in the radiation safety committee. Demonstrates working knowledge of problems encountered with patient handling and care.
  • Selects and operates radiation detection, imaging, and/or associated equipment to successfully perform procedures. Preventative maintenance and knowledge of equipment capabilities, calibration and care for survey meters and all other monitoring equipment. Reports equipment malfunctions to responsible party.
  • Documentation of all pertinent and procedural data, to include proper patient anatomy identification, left and right indicators, and pertinent patient history.
  • Participates in departments quality assessment and improvement plan. Participates in and documents specific quality control duties including daily, weekly and monthly testing. Tracking of daily numbers, and statistical data.
  • Provides patient education and demonstrates the ability to explain both pre and post-procedural instructions.
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the department through communication either written or verbal with all [parties involved. COORDINATES patient activity with other departments always recognizing patient confidentiality.
  • Patient assessment including monitoring of the patient condition and assuming the responsibility for provision of physical or psychological needs during procedures.
  • Computer literacy and application pertaining to department specific functions, including archival storage of digitized data, H.I.S. and PACs functions.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
  • Employee will rotate On-call responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two (2) years experience preferred.

EDUCATION

  • Graduate from an A.M.A. approved school of Nuclear Medicine

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • RTN or CNMT is mandatory
  • BLS Certification is mandatory

OTHER

  • Certification is mandated by the ACR accreditation. Employees must comply with ACR regulations pertaining to certification.
