- Monitor network performance, analyze network traffic, troubleshoot, and provide solutions to all network problems
- Create and maintain firewalls for network security
- Develop, implement, and monitor network security strategies
- Design and maintain VLANs and subnets to optimize and secure the campus network
- Implement and support core TCP/IP services (DHCP, DNS, VPN, etc.)
- Plan installation of network switches and other network hardware
- Troubleshoot network connection issues
- Develop, document, and maintain policies and procedures for network administration
- Manage servers and application environments critical to network services
- Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases
- Work with IT management on disaster recovery solutions
- Work with IT management to plan and design the campus network topology
- Work with IT management to manage the campus IP space
- Analyze and recommend solutions to improve overall performance, redundancy, and scalability of infrastructure
- Perform research on new technologies and provide findings through verbal presentations and written reports
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Four years of relevant experience can be substituted for the bachelor's degree
- Experience with Windows Server and UNIX operating systems
- Experience maintaining network firewalls and setting up network services (DNS, DHCP, VPN)
- Experience setting up routers and switches
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as part of a team; Experience in a higher educational environment a plus
- Knowledge of TCP/IP layers and protocols
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools and techniques
- Troubleshooting skills
- Programming skills for scripting/automating network monitoring and configuration tasks
- Good communication and documentation skills
- Available after hours and/or on weekends to install and maintain hardware or software components and to troubleshoot any network service interruptions
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of quality customer service
