Discover why NCDIT is the ideal destination for your professional growth - We currently have an opening for a Network Specialist The position is designated Statutory Exempt and is exempt from the State Human Resources Act This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agency's remote work program but does require weekly onsite work The Network Specialist works with other voice network engineers to expand enterprise solutions and explore new technologies. It supports the Service Owners and Service Directors in formulating solutions to issues confronting the agencies and institutions of North Carolina State Government. In this capacity, the voice network specialist assists in the development of detailed designs, technical proposals, statements of work, and implementation plans. This position participates and often leads in the lifecycle management of Enterprise Voice and Collaboration Services. Duties include, but are not limited, to:
  • Planning, design, and implementation of enterprise and agency specific telephony solutions including the technical, business, and cost implications of how these services fit into converged environments; primary focus is on carrier provided PSTN access services for enterprise voice services including the management of supporting contracts
  • Supporting the Service Owners and client engagement teams in formulating telephony solutions to issues confronting the agencies and other eligible government entities
  • Working with other voice service engineers and specialists to provide Tier 4 operational support, perform capacity planning and provision infrastructure upgrades
  • Extensive interaction with DIT clients is required as well as periodic interaction with outside vendors, both on state contract and in emerging technologies
About the Division The Network & Telephony Engineering unit is a section within the DIT Operations & Engineering Division. The primary purpose of the organizational unit is to provide appropriate enterprise networking and telephony systems and services as needed to support the business needs of all agencies and other DIT clients. Engineering evaluates, develops, tests, acquires, builds, service life cycle management and senior tier technical support of complex, statewide, inter-agency networking and telephony systems. In fulfilling this responsibility, translates the telecommunications requirements of North Carolina State Government's agencies and institutions into enterprise and agency specific services. This group does this by designing and engineering available and emerging telecommunications technologies into services that leverage capital investments as well as share management and administrative cost. The client base includes all executive branches, judicial branch, and legislative branch agencies as well as the university system, community colleges, K-12 schools, and municipal and county governments.   • Demonstrated knowledge of the PSTN (stands for Public Switched Telephone Network, or the traditional circuit-switched telephone network)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in advising customer agencies on the application of voice and collaboration services
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco CUCM, Oracle SBC and Nice CXone architecture and infrastructures
