This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Insurance trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at management's discretion.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Security Engineer to join our dynamic team. The role involves implementing, maintaining, and enhancing security measures for our organization's networks and systems, playing a critical role in protecting sensitive information and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our network infrastructure.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Developing and implementing network security policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Conducting security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests.
  • Automating security and business processes to improve efficiency.
  • Monitoring network traffic and security logs to detect and respond to incidents.
  • Designing and implementing secure network architectures, firewalls, and IDS/IPS.
  • Configuring and managing security devices such as firewalls, routers, switches, and VPNs.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate security best practices.
  • Staying updated with security trends and vulnerabilities, providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Reviewing security vulnerabilities, applying patches, and mitigating risks.
  • Investigating security breaches and incidents.
  • Participating in disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
  • Maintaining documentation of security configurations and incident responses.

Additional Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of cloud server creation, maintenance, and access restriction.
  • Configuration of Windows and Linux firewalls, including review and implementation of ACLs.
  • Experience with security software DLP and scanning tools for vulnerability management.
  • Understanding of DNS cloud security configurations.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Experience with security incident analysis and tracking.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Management Preferences:

Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or CCNP Security are preferred.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with three years of experience, or an associate degree with four years, or a high school diploma with seven years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
