Primary Responsibilities

Directly support the design, build, prototype, deploy, and maintain classified National Security Systems that support Naval Aviation mission engineering and advanced development programs for Naval Air Systems Command.

Role

The Engineer/Network Architect's primary responsibility is designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing local and wide area networks for a Program Office to ensure mission capability for Acquisition, Engineering, Test, and Evaluation activities and maximum uptime for users. The role includes designing system configurations, documenting and managing the installation of new networks, and maintaining and upgrading existing network systems and architectures. As a key part of our technical networking team, the Engineer/Network Architect will:

  • Design and implement new network solutions and/or improve current networks.
  • Install, configure, and support network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Procure network equipment and manage subcontractors involved with network installation.
  • Configure firewalls, routing, and switching to maximize network efficiency and security.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance.
  • Arrange scheduled upgrades.
  • Investigate network faults.
  • Update network equipment firmware.
  • Report network status to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across Government and Industry teams to identify network design requirements.
  • Develop network architecture artifacts and requirements ensuring interoperability.
  • Work with Data Architects and IT/Cyber teams to ensure compliance with relevant methods and requirements.
  • Contribute to requirements documents and statements of work.
  • Establish technology strategies and roadmaps for the Program Office and classified programs.
Required Experience And Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science / Engineering or related field from an accredited institution. Experience cannot substitute education.
  • At least 5 years of experience in defining, developing, and implementing network architecture strategies.
  • Certifications: Must meet IASAE Level III requirements per DoD 8570.01-M.
  • Experience providing strategic technology direction and architecture vision across a large capability portfolio.
Desired Experience And Skills
  • Experience with on-premise and cloud network solutions, virtual desktop infrastructure, high-performance computing, and cross-domain solutions.
  • Knowledge of digital engineering and model-based systems engineering.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience in dynamic, security-sensitive environments.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Expertise in networking concepts and protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, UDP, routing.
  • Experience with network hardware like routers, switches, VPNs.
  • Knowledge of firewalls and network security.
  • Understanding of cloud networking, virtualization, and automation.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex network issues.

Estimated Travel: 10%

Location: On-site Patuxent River, MD.
