Job Title: Network Analyst Reports to: Infrastructure Manager Dept./School: Technology Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Pay Grade: Business 1/240 Days Date Revised: 10/30/18 Description The Network Analyst's role is to design, build, and implement network systems across the enterprise. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all local and wide area network connections, district servers, associated software, and communication links. This person will also troubleshoot network performance issues, as well as analyze network traffic and provide capacity planning solutions. QualificationsEducation/Certification: Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science and/or 4 years equivalent work experience maintaining and administering network operating systems and server based applications. Certifications in CompTIA Network +,CompTIA A+, Cisco Special Knowledge/Skills Extensive hands-on technical knowledge of network systems, protocols, and standards such as Ethernet, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, 802.11x, and so on. Strong knowledge of network management and analysis tools. Extensive client/server and operating system experience with Microsoft Server 2008, Exchange 2010, Microsoft AD and Group Policy, and MAC OSX. Experience working in a switched and routed environment. Hardware, software, and network connection troubleshooting experience. Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, including cisco switches, servers and SAN. Skilled at installing/configuring switches, routers, bridges, wireless AP's. Knowledge of Microsoft Forefront anti-virus software, intrusion detection systems, and other network security measures. Good understanding of the district's goals and objectives. Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required. Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language. Highly self-motivated and directed. Keen attention to detail. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Strong customer service orientation. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Major Responsibilities and DutiesStrategy & Planning
Develop and implement policies for network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, related documentation, and technical specifications information. Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and help sheets for network installations, including data, voice, and video systems. Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with district continuity and disaster recovery plans. This includes weekends and after hours. Acquisition & Deployment Plan and implement any improvement, modification, or replacement of network infrastructure components. Support development and implementation of networking projects and new technology installations. Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend for purchase networking hardware and software products. Operational Management Monitor and analyze network performance across the district's LANs, WANs, and wireless deployments. Identify and remedy network performance bottlenecks. Configure and troubleshoot servers, including e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software. Install and configure all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, UPSs, and so on. Inspect, maintain, and where necessary replace network cabling, voice/data jacks, and other network-related equipment. Ensure network and IP connectivity of all workstations, application servers, and back-end district infrastructure. Perform on-site analyze, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions, including off-site repair. Provide guidance to desktop team members as required. Receive and respond to incoming calls, texts, and/or e-mails regarding network problems. This can occur after hours and on weekends. Work Conditions Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed, this includes texts, phone calls, remote vpn access. Sitting for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate power tools, computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components. Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings. Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Equipment Used: Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations. Personal computers, peripherals, servers, and printers are used. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling; frequent use of small hand tools and electronic test equipment; frequent district wide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours are possible. Sometimes on-call 24 hours a day is required.
