Position Summary

St. Joseph Old Cathedral, a historic and vibrant Roman Catholic parish in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City, is seeking a full-time Music Director and Organist to lead and grow our sacred music program. We are a multicultural, bilingual, and pilgrimage-oriented parish with a rich musical tradition rooted in reverence, beauty, and full participation in the liturgy.

The ideal candidate is a skilled organist, choral conductor, and planner, capable of overseeing all musical and liturgical music needs for both English and Spanish-speaking communities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead music for all parish liturgies, including:4 weekend Masses (Sat 4pm; Sun10am, 12pm Spanish, 4pm)Holy Days, special liturgies, and parish events
  • Direct and rehearse: Adult choir and schola (liturgical year), Spanish cho,ir and cantor ministry, Paid singers and volunteer musicians
  • Play and maintain the Kilgen pipe organ and Yamaha baby grand piano
  • Coordinate with clergy and staff for seasonal liturgical planning
  • Organize major musical events (e.g., Advent Lessons & Carols)
  • Manage music budget, licensing, copyright, and substitutes
  • Oversee cantor scheduling, and audio system operations
  • Arrange music for weddings and funerals (compensated separately)
  • Other duties as assigned by the pastor

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Organ, Sacred Music, Choral Conducting, or related field.
  • Strong proficiency in the organ (liturgical and concert-style).
  • Experience conducting choirs and leading from the organ or piano.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Spanish and bilingual liturgical music.
  • Familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgy and sacred/latin music tradition.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in a parish setting

Compensation & Schedule

Full-time salaried position with benefits.Separate stipends for weddings and funerals.2 weekdays off per week (M–F); weekends and Holy Days required.Reports directly to the pastor.
