Museum Manager, under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, manages the operation of the Railroad & Heritage Museum, including exhibits, collection management, educational programs, fundraising, memberships, staff, volunteers, and board activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans, directs, and supervises daily operation of Museum including gift shop, admission, exhibits, collections, facility rentals, fundraising, and educational programming including performing tasks in these roles when needed, such as running gift shop, giving tours, or installing exhibits
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates staff, including planning, prioritizing, and assigning tasks, and monitoring work performance
- Directs and implements policies for the Museum to meet professional standards, such as ethics policies, collections management, financial procedures, disaster response plan, etc.
- Develops and manages the museum's strategic plan, evaluating and developing mission and vision statements as needed
- Oversees exhibits, ensuring quality of exhibits, maintaining calendar for addition and removal of items, and monitoring the receiving and shipping process
- Manages care and use of historic objects to ensure proper handling, display, and storage of Museum collection
- Work with donors to ensure compliance with the Collection Policy
- Interfaces with and supports the Temple RRHM Foundation Board
- Increases museum memberships through recruitment, retention, and member engagement, developing programs specifically for members
- Recruits, trains, and monitors volunteers
- Provides customer service to public, visitors, donors, members, volunteers, and board members
- Manages budget and procurement for Museum in accordance with City policies
- Organizes and conducts fundraising activities, Family Day events, tours, trips, and educational programs to achieve revenue goals
- Acts as liaison between the Museum and various City Departments and community partners
- Accepts payments and processes refunds as necessary
- Maintains inventory records, contracts, and replenishment
- Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to Master's degree in Museum Studies, Library and Information Science, or related field
- Three (3) years of experience in a museum or related field
- Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory or managerial position
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Five (5) years of museum curatorial or management experience.
- Project management experience, including but not limited to Agile, Lean, Kanban, or Scrum
- Grant writing experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
