MSL Director
This role is considered Virtual.
The MSL Director, TTR is a medical-scientific expert that leads the German MSL Team and supports the medical-scientific objectives of Alnylam's TTR programs, building effective cross-functional relationships with colleagues in Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, Patient Advocacy, Marketing and Sales, while maintaining full compliance with all relevant company, industry, legal, and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will report to the Senior Country Medical Director, TTR Germany and will plan, direct, coordinate and support the activities of the Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) in Germany. In this regard, the MSL Director will ensure the implementation of the field medical activity plan, which includes:
- Evidence dissemination through field engagement and regional events
- Key opinion leader identification and engagement programs
- Insight gathering in areas of strategic importance
- Collaboration with medical experts in areas of evidence generation
The MSL Director, TTR will be responsible for coaching and mentoring of MSLs and overseeing MSL training activities, and accountable for operational excellence of field medical tactics.
Key Responsibilities:
- People Leadership and Development:
- Lead, develop and coach a team of MSLs to reach set goals, responsible for recruitment and retention of MSL team
- Establish a productive work environment by establishing trust and respect within the team and aligning the team behind a vision of excellence
- Carrying out field visits in alignment with the responsible MSL with the aim of driving forward resilient scientific relationships, establishing relevant contacts and further expanding long-term partnerships
- Represent field medical in German leadership meetings
- Field Medical Strategy:
- Support and drive the development and implementation of the MSL strategy and plan, including the support of launch readiness and post-launch medical tactics as well as cross-functional programs and activities
- Drive MSL execution of medical education campaigns and listening priorities
- Identify key opinion leaders who are experts in ATTR polyneuropathy and cardiomyopathy and collaborate with them and their organizations/institutions in the context of medical-scientific programs
- Serve as a medical-scientific liaison for HCPs/the medical community and medical professional organizations and patient advocacy groups
- Collaborate with speakers to review (if required) their presentations in line with Alnylam's SOPs and provide most accurate, objective and unbiased medical-scientific information if and when requested
- Provide educational medical-scientific meetings support at scientific congresses
- Communicate field medical activity and regional events to medical and cross-functional leadership
- Medical Excellence:
- Responsible for overseeing the scientific knowledge of the MSL team and collaborating with training team to fill gaps
- Develop and implement medical KPIs for the field team in accordance with national and international strategy
- Collaborate with other country MSL Leads to standardize where possible field medical activity and MSL expectations
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Ensure MSL collaboration with the Clinical Development team to ensure the timely and accurate implementation of research activities such a investigator initiated studies, collaborative studies and other clinical trials
- Compliant collaboration with sales leadership in the coordination of account and regional plans
Qualifications:
- MD (Doctor of Medicine)/PharmD and/or PhD and/or equivalent academic qualification along with at least 3 years of experience leading high-performing MSL teams
- Profound experience as MSL or similar in the life science industry, preferably in small pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies
- Proven experience in designing and implementing HCP education programs and KOL engagement programs
- Ability to cut through scientific complexity and synthesize complex content into clear and simple messages
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing field medical team while remaining actively engaged in day-to-day operations.
- Strong adaptability and resilience in navigating dynamic market conditions, evolving competitive landscapes, and organizational ambiguity.
- Demonstrated sense of urgency and accountability in driving results and achieving strategic objectives with high standards of excellence.
- Outstanding planning, prioritization, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage and take full responsibility for multiple complex projects in parallel.
- Skilled in cross-functional collaboration, with a strong track record of internal and external networking across medical, commercial, and global teams
- Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking, paired with strong communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
- Outstanding interpersonal and collaboration skills across matrix teams and at all organizational levels, including building strong working relationships, and resolving conflict
- Highest work ethic and unwavering commitment to upholding the highest ethical, legal, regulatory, and scientific standards
- Fluent in German and English, both written and verbal
- Willing to travel 60% of the time
