Summary:
The MRI Assistant, under the direction of the MRI Technologist, follows established procedures and guidelines to coordinate the daily flow and operations of the MRI department. This position performs a wide variety of ongoing support functions to assist in and/or expedite patient care as directed by the MRI Technologist.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists Technologist in managing patient load effectively and efficiently.
• Greets, screens, and safely transports patients to the scan room and returns them when completed.
• Under the direction of the MRI Assistant performs and/or aides patient transfer on/off the table, ensures patient comfort, as directed, assists in administering preliminary and post exam instruction and answering non-medical related questions.
• Accurately enters data information for patients, physicians, and exam information into the Radiology Information System.
• Assists technologist with preparing contrast agents and necessary supplies.
• Orders supplies and helps clean work area on a daily basis.
• Assists Technologist in ensuring applicable consents and forms are completed and signed taking into consideration age specific appropriateness, assists Technologist in assessing patient's status and needs, and follows-up on outstanding data or instructions.
• Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Maintains accurate patient records for all procedures performed, maintains patient confidentiality, and adheres to all HIPPA standards.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit: adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and utilize this information to identify patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and provide the care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: One year previous patient care work experience in a healthcare environment preferred. Prior experience in diagnostic radiology strongly preferred.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalency required.
Licenses / Certifications: Must possess or obtain BLS within 3 months of hire.
Other: Basic computer skills. Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy and medical terminology preferred.
