Child Watch Leader

Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Child Watch Leader at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise and care for children in the Y Child Watch program, ensuring safety and enjoyment.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and standards, including safety, emergency, behavior guidance, and child abuse prevention; make ADA accommodations as needed; maintain program site, equipment, and records.
  • Conduct safety and cleanliness checks on equipment and toys; clean toys and equipment daily.
  • Plan and implement purposeful activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with the Y's values and program goals.
  • Build positive relationships with children, modeling relationship-building skills.
  • Develop positive relationships with parents, families, and staff; communicate regularly with parents about their child's needs and progress; connect families to the Y.
  • Report incidents or safety hazards by completing incident reports per YMCA policy.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Adhere to all YMCA policies and embody the core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.

    Qualifications
    • Minimum age of 16 years.
    • Enjoy working with children; previous experience preferred.
    • Pass a TB test before starting.
    • Knowledge of child development and positive discipline techniques is a plus.
    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
    • Flexibility, patience, and adaptability to children's needs.
    • Dependable transportation.
    • Experience working with diverse populations.
    • Ability to build positive, authentic relationships across different backgrounds.
    • Committed to inclusion and ADA compliance.
    • Certifications: CPR/AED/First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, Understanding Your Biases, Anti-Harassment, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, Slips, Trips, and Falls trainings required within 30 days of hire.
    Work Environment & Physical Demands
    • Ability to plan, lead, and participate in program activities.
    • Work environment typically moderate to high noise level.
    • Ability to lift equipment and a small to average-sized child.
    • Ability to stand for long periods.
