Currently we are seeking an entry level model maker to join out Model Shop Team as a Model Maker I.

The Model Maker I, will assist our model makers and design engineers by producing prototypes to support product development. This includes supporting projects as needed to bring products from ideation/concept through design, development, testing, design verification and validation, manufacturing, and product introduction.

The Model Maker I, will work directly with the Model Shop Manager to determine how to complete any given task. Additional duties include assisting both marketing teams with mock-up displays and the facilities team with general support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Construct product prototypes per design teams' directions, needs, and timing.
  • Upon receiving a part(s) to build, consult with the Model Shop Manager to address any areas of concern with the part design as related to the steps/operations needed to fabricate the part.
  • Perform daily post processing of additive manufactured, 3D printed, parts without assistance.
  • Assist in routine daily maintenance of 3D printer machines.
  • Perform additional duties ancillary to building prototypes such as ordering hardware, taking inventory of shop consumables, clean-up, custom boxing of items to be shipped, etc.

Assist and actively participate in:

  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
  • Complying with all Company safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Transporting and/or picking up product and/or supplies as needed, using the Company vehicle.

Other:

  • Assist and participate in ad-hoc facility tasks and projects where “handyman” skills are needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

Experience and Education

  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED.
  • 1-3 years as a Model Maker
  • Technical High School or Journeyman License (machinist, toolmaker) a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical procedures, and general building maintenance is a plus, though not required.
  • CAD/CAM, SolidWorks experience a plus.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Proficient use of basic shop math. Understanding of basic geometric principles. Able to read a tape measure, as well as ability to use finer measuring devices, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.
  • Displays appropriate customer service and interpersonal skills; capable of working effectively with diverse teams, situations, and ideas.
  • Possesses a mindset of “whatever needs to get done”, while maintaining company's safety procedures.
  • Is an effective listener, takes responsibility for facilitating information exchange among peers, and managers.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to creative design and development.
  • Self-motivated with good attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain poised under pressure and adaptable to a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment.

Tools, Technical Abilities & Technology

Proficiency in many or all the following:

  • Use of non-specialized shop tools, i.e., hand tools, cordless drills, table saw, drill press, handheld and stationary sanding equipment.
  • Basic MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding practices.
  • Basic machine shop equipment, including manual vertical mill and manual lathe.
  • Ability to bend and cut basic tubing and sheet metal parts.
  • Painting and finishing equipment and methods.
  • Ability to quickly acquire new skills, equipment, and technologies.
  • Acclimate to and learn how to use new equipment with ease.

Other

  • Ability to work extended hours as business needs warrant, may include nights and weekends.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • Frequently required to use hands to operate machinery, hand tools, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Employees who are in a Non-Exempt position must accurately complete, obtain approval from their manager, and timely submit a timecard in the form provided by the Company as it coincides with the Company's bi-weekly payroll schedule.
