Job Description:
- Serve as Divisional Subject Matter Expert on Underground Mine Network Systems.
- Provide project management services and oversee bidding, construction, and implementation of the (14) Mine Communication systems planned throughout the Division.
- Once systems are operational, provide long-term ownership of operation, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting functions for all mine network/data backbone systems.
- Implement solutions for coverage issues as they arise.
- Manage centralized inventory of critical spare parts to ensure peak system performance and availability.
- Provide initial and ongoing training for site personnel to ensure peak system utilization, including training of onsite electricians or contractors for emergency repairs.
- Plan and manage all system expansions to keep pace with yearly mining advances.
- Lead projects and manage local requests to expand system capabilities.
- Evaluate and estimate opportunities for additional controls and tracking at operating sites.
- Participate in Capital Planning to identify future needs.
- Participate in Ops Excellence Audits where appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Operation Services Group on:
- Maintaining current controls on ventilation systems.
- Working with Ventilation Engineers to identify, engineer, and estimate new control opportunities.
- Working with Ground Control Engineers to expand and integrate roof monitoring systems with UG Communication systems.
- Designing and implementing Electronic Tag Boards.
- Supporting mine planning and automation opportunities for pumps, fans, air doors, regulators, and gas monitoring.
- Integrating projects onto the Mine Data Backbone.
- Identifying ventilation on demand opportunities and non-traditional network expansion needs.
- Coordinate the implementation and integration of Ops Excellence initiatives supporting overall operational excellence.
- Serve as the mine integration expert on Task Groups evaluating new technology deployment within the Division.
- Act as the primary contact with third parties, liaising between mines, vendors, electricians, and support groups.
- Be the subject matter expert on CCTV systems used for production, security, and sales, including designing, planning, installing, troubleshooting, and training personnel.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; 2-year technical degree in electrical design/layout, PLC programming, or related experience preferred.
- Experience with networking, Windows OS, radios, communication systems, and networking equipment.
- Preferred familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Strong troubleshooting skills; experience with ultrasonics, belt scales, VFDs, soft starts, and industrial processing equipment preferred.
- Basic understanding of underground mining is preferred.
- Proficiency in standard networking systems, fiber optics, CCTV installation, repair, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent time management, planning, and project management skills.
- Flexibility to work extended hours and overnight travel.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Prioritize safety at all times.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
