Department: Field OperationsWork Location: 11-County Metro Area (Twin Cities, MN)Job type: Full-Time / SeasonalPay Type / Range: Journeyman Union Scale. $46.25 per hour (based on experience and/or size and type of equipment)(This pay range is a good-faith estimate of compensation for this role.)Union Benefits & Additional Information:

Job Summary: The Mill Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating milling equipment to remove existing asphalt pavement prior to resurfacing. This role is essential to the asphalt paving process and requires strong attention to detail, equipment knowledge, and coordination with crew members to ensure precise surface preparation.Other Requirements: All candidates are required to pass a thorough Background Check, Physical and Drug Test.   • Must be able to operate a milling machine (Wirtgen)
  • Able to remove existing asphalt pavement by milling to improve the ride ability and cross slope of the pavement, to lower the finished grade adjacent to existing curb prior to resurfacing, or to completely remove existing pavement
  • Understand and follow specific plans to specify an average depth of cut
  • Operate the milling machine with a built-in automatic grade control system while controlling the transverse slope and the longitudinal profile to produce the specified results
  • Operate and limit the amount of dust escaping during the removal operation
  • Able to complete pavement removal, the operator may use alternate removal and crushing equipment in lieu of the equipment specified
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors.
  • Follow company and industry safety standards and procedures at all times.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • 1-3 years of experience operating asphalt milling machinery preferred.
  • Knowledge of milling equipment controls, grade automation systems, and mechanical functions.
  • Ability to read grade stakes and site plans.
  • Familiarity with DOT and company safety standards.
  • Must be safety-conscious, reliable, and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, early mornings, and weekends as needed.
  • High school education or GED equivalent.
  • Strong team player
