Introduction

Migratory Bird Program CT DEEP'S Wildlife Division is seeking to hire an Environmental Protection Seasonal Resource Assistant as part of the Migratory Bird program. Position begins March 21, 2025, and ends in September 2025. Responsibilities include: conducting bird surveys throughout the State, assisting with the capture of passerines, marshbirds, and waterfowl, conducting insect collections across the State, and performing spatial analysis of habitat variables using ArcGIS.

Selection Plan

Next Step: If selected for an interview, applicants will be contacted by the division's hiring supervisor, anticipated for March/April 2025. Purpose of Job Class

Within the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, as limited-duration employees, perform seasonal tasks and duties.

Examples of Duties
  • Conduct bird surveys across the State.
  • Assist with trapping passerines, marshbirds, and waterfowl.
  • Conduct insect collections statewide.
  • Perform spatial habitat analysis using ArcGIS.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

Ability to follow instructions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting bird surveys.
  • Experience with bird trapping.
  • Ability to perform spatial analysis in ArcGIS.
  • Willingness to work evenings and early mornings.
  • Ability to work independently at times.
Special Requirements

Some positions may require emergency first aid certification, a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license, pesticide license, or EMT certification. Lifeguard services require ARC Lifeguarding Certification, including CPR and First Aid.

Physical Requirements

Must possess adequate physical strength and stamina. Lifeguard roles require demonstrating ARC waterfront swimming skills.
