The NYC Department of Transportation, Office of Safety Education (SEO) is seeking a Middle/High School Team Leader to head a team of Safety Educators providing Vision Zero traffic safety education programs for students in Grades 6-12, teen and young adult drivers, and other at-risk populations, including adults and New Yorkers with physical, cognitive, and language challenges, to help eliminate traffic fatalities and injuries.
Responsibilities
Serve as a lead educator for Grade 6-12 traffic safety programs in schools across the city.Supervise Safety Educators delivering educational programs.Assist in developing and piloting new curricula and activities.Onboard new staff, providing coaching and feedback.Coordinate staff training and meetings related to education programs.Oversee scheduling of programs to meet outreach benchmarks and report deadlines.Develop relationships with school and community organizations, Community Boards, and neighborhood groups.Provide training to health and safety professionals, interns, and volunteers.Coordinate outreach and education for drivers, including mandated Dangerous Vehicle Abatement Program (DVAP) classes.Conduct on-street outreach in high-risk communities, participate in events like STOP-DWI, bike safety, health fairs, and seasonal outreach.Become certified as Child Passenger Safety Technicians to conduct car seat inspections and operate car seat fitting stations.Minimum Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of relevant community work experience; ORHigh school diploma or equivalent and six years of relevant community work experience; OREquivalent education and/or experience, with at least one year of experience as described above.Preferred Skills
- Experience teaching students in Grades K-12 is preferred.
- Bi-lingual skills are a plus.
- Valid NYS driver's license is preferred.
