Position: Transit Engineering Leader - Mid-Atlantic

HDR is seeking a Transit Engineering Leader to guide a successful and growing practice in the Mid-Atlantic (Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia). This leader will provide programmatic and technical leadership as well as project management for various transit engineering contracts and clients.

This role requires strong management skills and experience with transit capital projects such as track, structures, facilities, and systems. The leader will also guide program growth, client engagement, and industry involvement.

Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience with local transit agencies such as WMATA, Maryland Transit Administration, VRE, Virginia Passenger Rail Authority, and Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local standards and requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of transit-focused project delivery processes, including conceptual design, environmental documentation, PS&E, and DSDC.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide programmatic and technical leadership for transit engineering disciplines.
  • Manage transit engineering projects (track, structures, facilities, systems).
  • Guide program growth, client engagement, and industry involvement.
  • Establish client relations, marketing, and development activities.
  • Prepare scopes and fees for contracts and projects.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and manage staff assignments.
  • Manage contracts and mentor junior staff.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active engagement in professional or industry associations.
  • Preference for local candidates.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • 10 years of experience.
  • Professional registration and experience managing diverse teams.
  • Collaborative attitude aligned with HDR values.
