Job Title: MHA Student & Career Service Manager Department: Public Health | Health Services Management and Policy

The MHA Student & Career Service Manager will be responsible for a broad scope of student services and professional development activities integral to the successful enrollment, education and career placement of graduate students in the College of Public Health at The Ohio State University. The successful candidate will develop and implement programs and initiatives to prepare students to be competitive applicants for management careers in health services organizations. They will provide individual counseling and group training to support career exploration, professional skills development, meaningful practice experiences, and successful post-graduate job placement while also collaborating with the Alumni Affairs Coordinator and the Health Services Management and Policy Alumni Society (HSMPAS) to develop and implement programs that engage alumni to support student professional development, e.g. coaching programs, panel discussions, workshops. The manager will work with employers to facilitate on-site and other recruiting, e.g. fellowship fair, info sessions, interviews and assist incoming and current students in identifying relevant part-time job opportunities during their academic program. In collaboration with the MHA program director and faculty, the manager will systematically evaluate program outcomes to support continuous improvement while building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including alumni and other health care and public health professionals across the US, to understand evolving employer needs and expectations to develop opportunities for students or graduates.

The manager will support MHA faculty to enroll a well-qualified and competitive cohort of MHA students each year by reviewing completed applications to identify high potential candidates for admission. They will coordinate on-site interview days, positively representing the program, and responding to questions and inquiries. They will also routinely communicate with admitted students and coordinate program-specific orientation activities to ensure a smooth transition for incoming students.

The manager will serve as MHA students first point of contact for the program while developing content and routinely communicates with students to inform them about program requirements, events, and external opportunities. They will advise students to ensure that they have completed all prerequisites and degree requirements; develops curriculum plans for part-time, dual and combined degree students. The manager will respond to student questions and concerns and/or triages to refer to program director or faculty follow-up. The manager will monitor MHA student and career services data related to program goals, including but not limited to: admissions data, residency documentation and evaluation, student and alumni participation in career services events, fellowship and job placement.

The manager will support college graduation efforts by providing graduation clearance for all MHA students, ensuring they are meeting degree requirements and communicating with them regarding important graduation dates and deadlines while serving as a liaison to Graduation Services in the Graduate School.

They will collaborate with the development officer to coordinate scholarship awards for students in the College of Public Health and communicate scholarship awarding made by Undergraduate Studies Committee and Graduate Studies Committee as well as at the Division and Program level. The manager will collaborate with OAPSS career services staff and other CPH organizations, e.g. CPH Alumni Society, to support college-wide professional development and/or career services activities. The manager will also collaborate with faculty to ensure compliance with Commission on Accreditation Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) and the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation requirements.

This position requires successful completion of a background check.

Minimum Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years of relevant experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in career services and/or recruiting of graduate students
  • A Masters degree in higher education, career counseling or related area
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and have experience with database management.
  • Excellent organizational skills, along with excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience in student services support for graduate students is preferable.

Posting Range: $55,700 - $72,700 Salary offer will be determined from candidate education and experience, and internal equity.
