Job Title: Methadone Counselor

The Methadone Counselor position provides counseling to individuals receiving integrated substance abuse treatment and primary care services at the Substance Abuse Treatment Program.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments.
  • Instruct patients in program policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and review treatment plans.
  • Provide substance abuse counseling to individuals, groups, and families, focusing on motivation, education, crisis intervention, relapse prevention, and aftercare.
  • Coordinate comprehensive services within the clinic for patients on counseling caseload.
  • Monitor patients' response to methadone treatment through counseling and toxicology review.
  • Evaluate vocational/educational and learning needs; provide referrals as needed.
  • Perform mental health evaluations regarding psychiatric symptoms, suicidality, homicidality, etc.
  • Assess patient eligibility for entitlements and refer to appropriate agencies.
  • Enter patient data into HRA/STARS database.
  • Act as liaison between patients and outside agencies.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and maintain required records.
  • Assist with referrals to other services and agencies.
  • Present cases in supervision and team meetings.
  • Ensure billing for counselor-specific services and perform follow-ups.
  • Participate in seminars, trainings, and grand rounds.
  • Supervise collection of toxicology samples as required.
  • Meet with family members and outside providers as necessary.
    • Qualifications:
    • One year's experience as an addiction counselor (preferably with methadone clients) and a BA or BS degree.
    • CASAC or license in social work, mental health counseling, or related field.
    • Knowledge of government and community programs, regulations, and computer software.
    • Experience recognizing signs of neglect or abuse.

    This is a grant-funded position.

    Location: Bronx, New York

    Department: Psych - SATP

    Bargaining Unit: 1199

    Work Shift: Day (10 AM - 6:30 PM)

    Work Days: Monday-Friday

    Hourly Rate: $31.73
