About the Role:

We are seeking a dynamic Director of Engineering to serve as the technical cornerstone of our engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will be the primary expert for all matters related to Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) engineering construction drawings (see table below). Guide and mentor our talented team of engineers. Your leadership will be instrumental in streamlining our drafting and submittal review processes, reducing turnaround times, and minimizing drawing revisions. Ultimately, you will help deliver higher-quality, client-ready drawing sets with greater efficiency and accuracy.

Situation:

The current owner of the company is responsible for drawing coordination and quality assurance. His continued involvement in this area has become a bottleneck in the company's potential growth. We are hiring for this role to transfer accountability of this technical oversight to a dedicated leader, enabling the owner to focus more fully on his responsibilities as CEO & Head of Sales.

While our existing process for preparing and submitting engineering drawings is effective, there is a clear opportunity for improvement. Our goal is to deliver MEP drawing sets to clients faster and with fewer revisions, all while maintaining the highest standards of engineering excellence.

Obstacle:

New Age Engineering has experienced a 300% growth over the past four years. As the company scales, the owner requires support in managing the review and quality assurance of engineering drawings sent to clients.

A key challenge lies in the time and resources required to train new engineers in sound engineering principles and the constructability of systems in the field. This learning curve contributes to longer drawing completion times and increases the likelihood of revisions following client feedback.

Action:

As Director of Engineering, you will:

· Serve as the technical authority on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) engineering drawings, providing expert guidance and support to the engineering team.

· Coach and mentor engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

· Organize and optimize the drafting and submittal review processes to ensure clarity, consistency, and efficiency.

· Implement robust quality control procedures to minimize errors and reduce the need for revisions.

· Conduct code compliance reviews to ensure all drawings meet applicable regulations and standards.

· Lead improvements in the preparation of Construction Document (CD) drawing sets, ensuring they are accurate, complete, and client ready.

· Revamp and standardize existing workflow processes, including updating drawing standards, developing specification workbooks, and creating reusable training resources for engineering staff.

Under your leadership, the engineering team will become more agile, responsive, and technically proficient—resulting in faster delivery of high-quality, client-ready drawing sets. Your efforts will lead to a significant reduction in drawing revisions and rework, improved internal workflows, and the establishment of a culture centered on accountability and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For:

• Proven experience leading engineering teams, with a strong background in technical drawing, ASHRAE Engineering Standards, NYC Construction Codes and construction means & methods.
• Deep expertise in engineering drawing standards, drafting processes, and quality assurance.
• Professional Engineering License in Mechanical HVAC Preferable.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and inspire engineers at all levels.
• Experience improving workflows and implementing process improvements in a technical environment.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Expert in AutoCAD and understanding of REVIT.
• Deep Understanding of the Systems listed below.

Mechanical

Electrical:

· Electrical Load Analysis

· Backflow Prevention Systems (DEP CCCU)

· Sanitary & Vent Systems
