POSITION SUMMARY:The Mental Health Technician (MHT) plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, structured, and trauma-informed care to residents within a residential treatment center. Under the administrative direction of the MHT Manager and the clinical supervision of licensed clinical staff, the Mental Health Technician supports therapeutic programming, ensures resident safety, and fosters a healing environment that promotes recovery, personal growth, and the emotional, behavioral, and social development of residents.JOB-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:•Service o Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision, and Values of Nexus Health Systemso Upholds the Standards of conduct and corporate compliance.o Demonstrates honest behavior in all matters. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.o Adheres to all Nexus Health Systems policies on Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI)o Collaborates effectively with colleagues and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.•Clinical Excellence o Provides direct supervision and care to residents, ensuring their safety, comfort, and engagement in therapeutic activities.o Manages and ensures daily schedule for residents is followed as well as adequate supervision o Assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, grooming, and meal support, promoting independence and dignity.o Transports residents to and from appointments, clinics, laboratories, and/or treatmentso Implements and reinforces individualized treatment plans, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support residents' goals.o Facilitates milieu activities, such as community meetings, recreational events, and skill-building groups, tailored to the residents' needs.o Responds promptly and effectively to crisis situations, employing de-escalation techniques and interventions as trained.o Demonstrates professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions, serving as a role model for residents and peers.o Maintains accurate and timely documentation of resident behaviors, interventions, and progress notes in accordance with facility policies.o Participates actively in team meetings, offering insights and observations to inform care strategies.o Adheres to established protocols and procedures, ensuring consistency and quality in service delivery.•Patient Experience and Advocacy o Fosters a therapeutic environment that respects residents' rights, cultural backgrounds, and individual preferences.o Advocates for residents' needs and concerns, facilitating communication between residents and the treatment team.o Encourages resident participation in treatment planning and decision-making processes, promoting empowerment and self-efficacy.o Supports residents in developing coping strategies, social skills, and resilience through positive reinforcement and guidance.•Quality Assurance and Complianceo Ensures all activities adhere to healthcare regulations and organizational policies.o Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.o Promotes a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices.o Participates in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and training sessions to enhance service delivery and outcomes.o Monitors and reports any incidents, safety hazards, or policy violations promptly, contributing to a culture of accountability.•Professional Growth and Continuing Educationo Completes annual education requirements.o Maintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency validation requirements.o Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.o Participates in relevant workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses to stay current with industry trends, healthcare regulations, and best practices.o Engages in ongoing professional development and in-service training relevant to mental health care.o Stays informed about current best practices, treatment modalities, and emerging trends in behavioral health.o Seeks feedback and supervision to enhance skills, address challenges, and support career advancement.o Maintains required certifications and licensures, ensuring compliance with professional standards.•Financeo Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.o Utilizes resources efficiently, minimizing waste and contributing to cost-effective operations.o Documents services accurately to support billing processes and reimbursement procedures.o Participates in inventory management, ensuring the availability and proper use of supplies and equipment.o Assists in identifying opportunities for financial savings without compromising quality of care.•Performs other duties as assigned.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION:•High school diploma or equivalent (required)•AA/BA/BS Psychology, Education, or related social service field (preferred)EXPERIENCE:•One (1) year of experience in a behavioral health, residential, human services field, or at least 2 years of college education. (required) •Experience in residential care or mental health treatment (preferred) SKILLS: •Strong interpersonal skills, emotional resilience, and ability to maintain professional boundaries.•Proficiency in the use of de-escalation techniques.•Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills•Excellent written and verbal communication•Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in electronic health records (EHRs) systems. Preferred experience with Meditech and Microsoft Office applications.•Knowledge of healthcare terminologyLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:•First Aid and CPR•De-escalation training within 30 days after hire.•Maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility or obtain it within thirty (30) days of hire.
