Mental Health & Behavior Intervention Consultant Kent ISD Full time, 200 day year-round position Non-Union Professional, 8 hours per day BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Mental Health and Behavior Intervention Consultant provides countywide leadership, consultation, training, and support to school districts in implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) with a focus on behavior, social-emotional learning (SEL), and school-based mental health services. The consultant works collaboratively with district leaders, school staff, and community agencies to promote student wellness, increase access to mental health supports, and build sustainable, data-driven systems that improve outcomes for all students. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Countywide technical assistance and consultation for school districts in the development and implementation of evidence-based mental health practices, policies, and procedures. Countywide technical assistance and consultation for school districts in the development, implementation, and evaluation of tiered behavior and mental health interventions aligned with MTSS frameworks. Assist in the development of data-based decision-making processes to monitor behavioral and mental health interventions. Design and deliver training for educators, school staff, and administrators on universal crisis prevention & response, behavior management, trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, social-emotional learning, and school mental health. Collaborate with school-based mental health providers and community-based organizations to strengthen mental health services and referral pathways. Support schools in collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data related to behavioral incidents, student wellness, and intervention effectiveness. KNOWLEGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Deep understanding of Multi-tiered System of Support, Interconnected Systems Framework, Positive School Climate & Culture and Social-Emotional Learning. Certification in Crisis Prevention & Verbal De-Escalation (CPI), Restorative Practices, Behavioral Threat Assessment, Mental Health Crisis Response, and Trauma-Informed Practices preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Awareness of social emotional learning and the intersection of school safety and crisis response. Compliance with all federal and state laws regarding student mental health and special education (e.g., IDEA, Section 504, FERPA) Strong presentation, facilitation, and coaching skills. Master's degree in School Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Education, or related field. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in education, mental health services, or behavior support within K-12 settings. Experience with MTSS implementation and behavioral and mental health intervention strategies. Must possess exceptional organizational, verbal, and written communication skills to effectively interact with superiors, peers, subordinates, local/state/national education reps, and regulatory/funding agencies, constituent districts, and the public-at-large. Must pass a criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation. Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity and inclusion in all practices.
