Medical Laboratory Scientist - PRIDE Health : Job Details

Pride Health is seeking a Medical Lab Technician to join the team at in Detroit, MI 48202. This includes both manual techniques and the operation of laboratory instruments and information systems.

Job Summary

The Medical Lab Technician will work under the direct supervision of a laboratory technologist, leader, or supervisor to perform specialized laboratory procedures on blood and other body fluids/specimens. This includes both manual techniques and the operation of laboratory instruments and information systems. The role may also require performing phlebotomy as needed. A significant portion of the testing involves prenatal testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests following defined protocols in cytogenetics and related areas.
• Prepare, handle, and process clinical specimens according to safety and quality standards.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and information systems (Epic, Sunquest CoPathPlus LIS).
• Follow all safety procedures, including the use of PPE, when handling specimens.
• Document test results accurately and ensure timely reporting.
• Assist with phlebotomy procedures when required.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory guidelines and laboratory quality standards.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge in laboratory science sufficient to perform assigned duties.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical laboratory experience, including specimen handling and PPE usage.

Education & Certification

• Required: Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Science.
• Required: Certification from a recognized national certifying agency (ASCP or NCA).
• Preferred: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification.
• Certifications: BLS required.

Work Environment

• Primary work in a cytogenetics lab with prenatal testing focus.
• PPE required for specimen handling.

Additional Information:

• Location: Detroit, MI 48202
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Potential Flex Hours: 9:00–5:00 or 9:30–6:00)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Pay Rate: $45 - $55/hour
