General Motors is seeking skilled Mechanical Journeypersons, such as millwrights, pipefitters, toolmakers, and machine repair specialists. In this role, you will work with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment and problem-solving skills to complete multiple job assignments throughout your shift.

Preferred Experience Includes:

  • Familiarity with planned maintenance systems and predictive technologies
  • Experience in industrial robotics, automation, and conveyance systems

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company policies
  • Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery including motors, generators, compressors, engines, pumps, and various machine tools
  • Layout, assemble, fabricate, and repair piping systems
  • Utilize hand and power tools for measuring, cutting, and assembling pipes, valves, and fittings
  • Read and interpret blueprints related to conveyor systems, robots, and other automation
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts and cranes
  • Determine loading requirements for rigging equipment and materials
  • Set up and operate CNC and conventional machine tools for fabricating tools and parts
  • Fabricate punches and tools to precise specifications
  • Plan sequences of operations for creating tools or assemblies
  • Ensure quality of finished products by using measuring instruments to verify dimensions and specifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least six years of experience in a mechanical trade or a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in a mechanical trade
  • Must pass General Motors hiring process which includes assessments, drug testing, and background check
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including overtime and weekends
  • GM does not offer immigration sponsorship for this position

Physical Requirements:

  • Quick response to safety instructions is essential
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Comfortable wearing personal protective equipment
  • Ability to navigate a busy work environment
  • Ability to bend, twist, kneel, and reach
  • Occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Drive mobile equipment if necessary

General Motors offers competitive compensation and benefits, including annual incentive payouts. Please be aware that relocation and travel expenses are the responsibility of the applicant.

This position may be filled with a Journeyperson or Journeyperson In Training. Compensation ranges from $36.68-$42.80 for JITs or a Journeyperson rate of $43.67; pay depends on qualifications and interview performance.
