The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for overseeing projects, supervising day-to-day team operations, and ensuring performance goals are met for a designated site. May perform administrative tasks.

The Facilities Mechanical Supervisor oversees the boiler and chiller operator team, ensuring compliant, continuous 24/7 operation of the Central Utility Plant's high-pressure steam boilers and chiller systems. This role serves as the primary contact with the VA Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), managing staffing, scheduling, and performance to meet VA requirements. The supervisor will oversee three dual-qualified operators unless scheduled as an operator for a shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Staffing and Scheduling: Coordinate and assign 12-hour shifts (Shift A: 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM; Shift B: 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM) for three dual-qualified operators, following the rotation pattern (Sunday–Tuesday, Thursday–Saturday, alternating Wednesdays). Ensure continuous coverage, including during staff illnesses or emergencies. Provide emergency staffing within 24 hours to maintain minimum staffing levels.
  • Liaison with VA: Act as the primary contact with the VA COR for operational and contractual matters. Communicate shift schedules, staffing updates, and operational issues promptly. Submit required documentation such as logs, incident reports, and maintenance records.
  • Performance Oversight: Ensure operator compliance with VHA Directive 1810, OSHA standards, NFPA 85, ASME codes, and The Joint Commission standards. Monitor performance to meet VA standards, including zero tolerance for unattended boilers and unplanned outages. Address staff issues and facilitate corrective actions.
  • Operational Support (When Scheduled as Operator): Perform duties as outlined in the Boiler and Chiller Operator Job Description, including operating boilers and chillers, conducting inspections, logging data, and engaging in maintenance and emergency responses.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to VA infection control, safety, and emergency procedures. Verify PPE use, drug- and alcohol-free policies, and tobacco-free campus policies.
