Job Description :
Holtec International and its subsidiary companies are designing an unfailingly safe and secure source of clean energy using nuclear fission, called the SMR-160 small modular reactor. The position is offered by SMR LLC as a member of the Holtec International family, a global turnkey supplier of equipment and systems for nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil power generation sectors of the energy industry.Come join a growing multidisciplinary team of designers and engineers designing the next generation nuclear power plant. The Mechanical Engineering Analyst analyzes mechanical and structural components of buildings and systems within the SMR-160 plant. The analyses will support engineering and licensing requirements, leading to the licensing and construction of the first SMR-160 plant. The Analyst will use, and have the opportunity to learn, various methods and software to perform the analyses. The Engineer will be part of a team executing a U.S. Government cost-shared development program requiring efficient completion of engineering assignments, including coordination with other analysts in U.S. and off-shore operating centers.Specific Areas of Responsibility:
  • Execute and document structural and mechanical design analysis for pressure vessels, supports, mechanical equipment, and structures.
  • Improve concept designs based on limited requirements or functions and develop mature requirements by gaining an understanding of the system, structure, or components.
  • Review available concept designs based on an ambiguous set of requirements, then develop them into mature designs by critical thinking, literature research, interacting with team members from other disciplines and vendors, and any analysis as permitted by project milestones.
  • Support the preparation of design deliverables, presentations, and communicate design progress in stakeholder meetings.
  • Support development of engineering and licensing requirements and documentation for nuclear systems and components.
Minimum Requirements:
  • MS in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, structural engineering, materials science and engineering, or closely related field of engineering.
  • Strong academic background in mechanical or structural engineering and analysis, including course work applying analysis methods and performing finite element analysis.
  • 0-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Effective communication, organizational, interpersonal, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and capable of producing error-free documents.

Optional Additional Qualifications:
  • PhD in mechanical engineering, applied mechanics, structural engineering, materials science and engineering, or closely related field of engineering.
  • Industry experience designing/fabricating of heat exchangers, piping, valves, pumps, and ASME components.
  • Industry experience using FEA simulation to support product development.
  • Experience working with engineers and fabricators to develop designs and drawings.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, PV Elite, and SmartPlant software suites.
  • Knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Nuclear Regulations and Guidance from 10 CFR 50; 10 CFR 52; NUREG-0800 Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6; and nuclear quality assurance.
