East Peoria, IL - Salary Range 65-85kJob Brief The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for reviewing and interpreting project write-ups, applying appropriate engineering terminology, methodologies, and clarifications to ensure accurate schedule projections, manpower planning, and material requirements. Key responsibilities include preparing and developing machinery drawings, plans, and prints, including shop and supplier fabrication drawings, composite drawings, and other technical documents. - Comply with all company and departmental directives, guidelines, and engineering practices.
- Complete project designs on schedule, staying within estimated hours and material costs.
- Research, source, and order parts in a timely manner.
- Begin designs early to ensure completion prior to production build dates.
- Leverage existing applicable drawings and engineering resources.
- Support assigned projects through all phases, from design to production and completion.
- Collaborate with Project Management to clarify requirements, define scope, and address customer needs.
- Identify out-of-scope changes and coordinate with Project Management and Sales for change orders.
- Review specifications, project write-ups, pricing, and correspondence to ensure accurate designs.
- Discuss and resolve engineering questions with Project Management and Sales.
- Provide submittal, approval, general arrangement, and composite drawings as required.
- Ensure all designs meet customer specifications and compliance requirements.
- Review, check, and provide feedback on engineering drawing packages prior to production release.
- Verify drawings for accuracy, dimensions, functionality, and production notes.
- Validate shop write-ups for accuracy and proper production flow sequencing.
- Perform calculations and analysis using spreadsheets, calculators, and software tools.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and support to detail engineers and production staff.
- Assist sales with technical specifications, drawings, and support during the quoting process.
- Coordinate and collaborate with electrical engineers regarding switchgear, cabling, and conduit design.
- Deliver technical support and clarification throughout design, production, and testing phases.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology (preferred).
- Proficiency in CAD and 3D modeling software (Pro-E or equivalent), with strong computer literacy.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and ERP systems to support daily project flow.
- Solid understanding of assemblies, subassemblies, and related engineering principles.
- General knowledge of engines, airflow, piping, structural loads, and fabrication practices (weld symbols, beam deflection, tank sizing, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization.
- Highly detail-oriented, accurate, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Independent, resourceful, and collaborative, with a high level of enthusiasm and commitment.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally when required (minimal).
