Location: District Wide Salary: $31.05 per hr Closing Date: Employment Date: September 2025 This position is represented by Union Membership Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience repairing automotive vehicles, school buses, or medium-duty trucks.
  • Hold a valid CDL with School Bus and passenger endorsements, or be able to obtain one within 6 months of hire date.
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Have or can obtain background clearance with WSP and FB
  • Demonstrated use of technology including computers and software applications.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Learn the State of Washington State Patrol school bus and motor vehicles safety inspection requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to learn and use diagnostic equipment and computer programs for use in diagnosing School bus electronic and run ability issues.
  • Ability to learn to repair emission-related issues on school buses and automotive fleets.
  • Ability to learn airbrake repairs and all components necessary to function.
  • Be aware of all OSHA and Labor &Industries safety procedures for the operation of any and all equipment used in the daily operation of repairs of any vehicles. Ensure you know board policies and procedures for reporting and accidents.
  • Oversee large maintenance projects including but not limited to selection of contractors and creating project timelines.
  • Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated strong skill in reading, writing, and communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform repairs.
  • Knowledge of general cleaning procedures Demonstrated ability to learn the use of specialized cleaning equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow schedules, implement instructions, work cooperatively with others, and use cleaning materials safely.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift moderate to heavy objects.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with district staff.
  • Essential Job Functions:
  • Diagnose, remove, and assemble body and chassis components from any vehicle; clean, inspect, rebuild, and assemble new or original parts; reinstall components; and make necessary adjustments.
  • Diagnose potential vehicle malfunctions (e.g., using computer diagnostic equipment) to determine whether repairs and/or replacement are needed.
  • Inspect, clean, adjust, tighten, and /or repair minor items such as lights, bulbs, lenses, and reflectors.
  • Repair items such as kingpins, springs, shocks, leaf springs, spring hangers, pins, and bushings.
  • Perform service work such as oil and filter changes, chassis lube and service, fuel filter and transmission filter replacement, and tune-ups as needed or scheduled.
  • Replace and repair brakes, steering repairs, electrical repairs, heater repairs.
  • Perform seat frame and upholstery repairs or replacements.
  • Replace or repair minor body parts, floors, fenders, and dents.
  • Perform minor repairs as requested on daily vehicle inspection reports in a timely fashion:
  • Perform some minor tire repairs, or replacement to insure all busses and motor vehicles are with safe tires.
  • Respond to emergency situations during and outside regular work hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns, including emergency breakdowns and service inside our district or outside our district.
  • Help bus drivers with tire chain installation, and removal may require some snow removal and ability to run other equipment or machinery.
  • Service buses and transportation equipment for purpose of ensuring a qualified person is able to run the bus on the route.
  • Substitute as a bus driver when needed for the purpose of ensuring qualified person is able to run the bus on a route.
  • Transport various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
  • Assist in starting of vehicles during winter months.
  • Be on call outside of regular work hours as necessary for emergency breakdowns and service, as well as snow removal and general property maintenance.
  • Ensure that all trip logs are completed and accurate following each use of bus or vehicle
  • In Winter months, perform road inspections and maintain a working relationship with Washington State DOT and Makah Tribe roads department to ensure the safe travel of students on buses and staff traveling in or outside the district.
  • Assist with the hiring process for drivers.
  • Purchasing of all district vehicles
  • Schedule, coordinate and dispatch buses for bus routes, field trips and extracurricular events.
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of all district facilities on an as-needed basis, including fixing and maintaining mechanical equipment, heating systems, plumbing, electrical, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
