Tutoring in the Math Center is a free service funded by Sheridan College, and there is no need to schedule an appointment. The schedule of available faculty, professional tutors, and peer tutors is posted at the start of each semester. The Math Center is also an open computer lab where students can come to work on their homework assignments both individually and in a group setting.QualificationsReports To Math Center Coordinator Education/Qualifications

• Cumulative GPA is 3.0 or greater
• Math degree or degree in related field (such as education, engineering, or physics)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Proficient in mathematics concepts- algebra, problem solving, calculus and/or statistics
• Familiarity with online homework systems (such as Pearson MyLab) and graphing calculator is preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively with students both orally and in writing
• Recommendations preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

• Depending on the hours working in the math center, you may be sitting for 1-3 hours at a time.
• No heavy lifting is required.
• Typical instruction environment

• Arrive on time for scheduled tutoring commitments
• Answer questions students have regarding math concepts in homework assignments and notes
• Communicate with students in a polite respectful way
• Follow tutoring best practices
• Adhere to college FERPA and other policies.
• Promote and maintain academic integrity (i.e. Do not allow the use of AI or provide assistance on quizzes/exams)
