Responsible for the full management of the Materials Area, including warehouse operations and the delivery of materials to the production environment. Ensures the timely and efficient flow of materials from receiving through shipping, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer service.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Supervise and oversee Materials Department staff, including Material Handlers and Forklift Operators
- Conduct employee training and complete training documentation for HR submission
- Oversee material flow and sequencing from receiving to assembly and shipping
- Inspect incoming materials to ensure correctness and quality
- Coordinate material flow for customer-specific builds (e.g., VHD)
- Monitor employee safety and conduct accident reporting and investigations
- Participate in and lead daily pre-shift and department meetings
- Maintain clean and organized materials areas, including proper disposal of pallets, cardboard, and waste
- Assign and track use of powered industrial trucks (PIT) and related equipment
- Maintain excellent customer relations and support customer communication
- Report and track material defects, discrepancies, and part shortages
- Support and participate in internal and external inventories
- Order Kanban replenishment as required
- Pull and prepare parts for transfers to other plant locations or customers
- Perform daily/weekly/monthly audits, including tracking of wrong/missing parts
- Ensure completion and tracking of scheduled rail shipments
- Maintain accurate records and ensure timely updates of KPIs
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Adhere to all corporate policies and procedures
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of one year of warehouse experience, with demonstrated ability to manage inventory and staff
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn inventory management systems
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
- Experience in process documentation and revising work instructions preferred
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
