PRIMARY PURPOSE:The primary role(s) of this position is to perform daily materials management activities - culminating in month end close and the of reports related to production yields, variances and metrics. This position will have the primary responsibility to track the material movements through the plant with the intent of improving the plant cost structure. In addition, the position will be responsible for providing day-to-day support to the operations team representing in the Finishing Department, Raw Material Unloading, and Inter-plant transfers. The successful candidate will be a chemical engineer with 5 – 10 years' experience in large, complex, chemical plant operations and the ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic work environment. A focus on improving plant operational safety and the SHE goals will be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor area safety requirements, activities and metrics. Support the SHE Dept. and Production Team in the development/implementation of solutions to safety issues and areas of non-compliance. Perform inspections to assure compliance to existing safety procedures and assess the effectiveness/need for other risk reduction activities
  • Manage supervisors and operators associated with the Material Group. This includes personnel working in the Finishing Department, Pumpers who unload raw materials, and Pumpers who make inter-plant transfers.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of the plant's SAP reconciler
  • Track and insure operator training materials are up to date and operators are trained.
  • Responsible for Employee Performance Evaluation, including coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline of personnel working in the Materials Group.
  • Support the implementation of QMS policies, practices and procedures. Respond to Corrective Action/Preventative Action (CAPA) requests and Customer Corrective Actions (CCA). Communicate QMS and TPI performance with operators.
  • Develop and Drive the necessary training and/or feedback to support continuous improvement to process operations, including housekeeping, 5S, and other initiatives as directed by Plant and Site Management.
  • Participate & Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), incident investigations, job safety analysis and LOTO audits.
  • Monitor the daily activities of the operations associated with the Materials Group and provide technical support to the teams as needed to improve operating metrics and to ensure product quality meets customer requirements.
  • Develop and implement projects designed to improve unit productivity, reliability, product quality and to reduce operating costs.
  • Initiate and track the Management of Change (MOC) process for all changes or improvements.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Dept. to develop the scope and implementation of planned maintenance activities.
  • Assist the Reliability Group to improve unit fixed and rotating asset reliability.
  • Develop and periodically review/update procedures and training materials including (SOP, PWI, Training Docs).
  • Develop ideas, scope and preliminary engineering for capital projects.
  • Support the production planning process and tank management strategies. Monitor and track inventory transfers.
  • Track and maintain report for the Late Shipments and Out-of-spec shipments due to Manufacturing issues. Implement measures to prevent re-occurrences.
  • Supervise the end-of-month material balance process and provide necessary reports detailing variances, unit performance and other key metrics.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of product Bills of Material (BOM) to ensure the proper cost structure is maintained.
  • Initiate Corrective Action/Preventative Action (CAPA) investigations for down-grades and other non-conformances associated with the Materials Group.
  • Maintain good working relationships with rotating supervisors to maintain a strong work force and shared commitment to the team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering . Bachelor of Science in other engineering disciplines will be considered with commensurate experience in large scale chemical plant operations.EXPERIENCE: Five to Ten years working in an industrial facility, preferably a chemical process production plant, with at least three years in process engineering, operations and/or project engineering.SKILLS:1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.2. Excellent computer skills with a strong working knowledge of MS Excel. A good knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint.

3. Strong working knowledge of OSI-PI.

4. Strong working knowledge of SAP, including SAP maintenance module.

5. Working knowledge of Emerson Delta V DCS.

6. Strong working knowledge in the requirements OSHA 1910.xxx standards, and in particular the Process Safety Management Standard.
