Maryland SNAP-Ed Agent Associate - Garrett County Nutrition Educator and Project Leader
Organization's Summary Statement:The Nutrition Educator and Project Leader will deliver SNAP-Ed programs that encourage a nutritious and active lifestyle through increased food access, drinking more water, and promoting physical activity to low-income residents in Garrett County with emphasis on reaching SNAP recipients. SNAP-Ed's goal is to provide comprehensive programs that consist of nutrition education lessons, indirect education and policy, system and environmental-level changes at partnering sites.Responsibilities:
- Serve as Project Leader including supervising SNAP-Ed program assistant and leading SNAP-Ed county team meetings, team communication plans and budget. (Administrative role is approximately 10% of time.)
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations to plan, implement, and evaluate multi-level nutrition interventions including programming that creates a healthier environment for participants by influencing the policies and systems.
- Develop and submit annual collaborator agreements with youth and food access sites and budget for each collaborator.
- Plan and conduct SNAP-Ed programs that encourage a nutritious and active lifestyle through increased food access, drinking more water, and promoting physical activity to low-income youth and adults.
- Plan and conduct policy, systems and environmental (PSEs) change trainings for change agents including teachers, cafeteria workers, pantry employees and district/organization wide employees.
- Use SNAP-Ed evaluation instruments to conduct program assessment and report formative, process, and outcome evaluation data.
- Provide program support including technical assistance on PSE related efforts and supply purchase/distribution.
- Attend SNAP-Ed staff development programs and engage in regular communication with the statewide team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in nutrition, health education, or a related field.
- Applicants must be self-motivated, flexible, innovative, and resourceful and must have skills and experience in conducting community-based education programs.
- A valid driver's license and access to an automobile for travel in Garrett County and to SNAP-Ed trainings.
- Successful candidate is required to obtain a clear background check by the State of Maryland and the FBI.
Preferences:
- Master's Degree.
- Experience in community organizing and/or partnering with grassroots communities and schools.
- Experience in writing grants and securing funds for projects.
- Experience working with diverse community stakeholders.
- Experience in conducting nutrition education activities involving food.
Physical Demands of the Position:
- A routine part of this position's responsibilities would be to transport materials to and from teaching/event locations, including loading and unloading the vehicle. The employee will frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds. Set-up and tear-down of displays, tables, and chairs would be necessary at many teaching sites.
