Position: Marketing Manager, Trade Nonfiction
Reports To: Senior Marketing Director, Trade Nonfiction
Department: Marketing
Location: Ada, MI, Bloomington, MN, or remote
Position Type: Regular Full Time, Exempt
The Marketing Manager for Trade Nonfiction is responsible for all aspects of marketing on assigned titles, including promotion, advertising, titling, positioning, and author/agent relations. The person in this position will also be a key participant in the division's publication committees, acquisitions activities for key authors, and strategic planning. Travel (approx. five times per year) is required.
Essential Functions of This Position:
- Direct the development, communication, and execution of compelling marketing plans for each assigned title; administer the budgets, making sure that marketing dollars are appropriately and wisely spent
- Oversee the development and production of creative marketing materials including ads, eblasts, author promotional materials, etc.
- Direct promotional strategies through various media venues
- Lead the processes of positioning and titling for assigned titles by effectively collaborating with in-house colleagues and our authors
- Collaborate with key in-house staff across divisions and departments to combine shared experience and expertise in order to strategize for effective publishing
- Participate in key in-house meetings to represent the marketing interests of the divisions, including publishing committee meetings, strategy meetings, and sales conferences
- Effectively and professionally represent the divisions-as well as Baker Publishing Group as a whole-to key outside contacts, including authors, agents, and media
- Travel as assigned to conferences, trade shows, and author meetings, as needed
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Minimum of six years of publishing experience or its equivalent, with a background in marketing, promotion, and/or publicity
- A bachelor's degree in marketing, business, English, or a related field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Solid understanding of Christian theology, denominations, ministries, and subjects relevant to BPG publications
- Comprehensive knowledge of book market trends and audience preferences
- Strong analytical abilities with experience in data-driven marketing strategies
- Keen attention to detail and a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong relational and problem-solving skills and a desire to serve and meet the needs of authors, stakeholders, and colleagues
