The Marketing Associate, Author Relations will serve as a key point of contact for Bloomsbury Academic & Professional authors globally. This role serves to support the Product Marketing Managers in their communications with authors by communicating upcoming publication dates and marketing plans, requesting authors complete author questionnaires, and responding to author queries. The Marketing Associate, Author Relations is responsible for all administrative tasks associated with author outreach on behalf of the Product Marketing Managers. This position requires organization, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a proficiency with Microsoft Excel. The ideal candidate will strive to understand the important partnership between authors and publishers in all aspects of marketing books to the academic market. As a member of the Bloomsbury Academic & Professional Marketing team, the Marketing Associate, Author Relations will serve as the central point of contact for authors, managing communications with them on behalf of the Product Marketing team and partnering with authors to ensure they utilize best practices to bring their books to market. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the distribution and organization of author questionnaires on behalf of the Bloomsbury Academic & Professional Product Marketing department.
  • Respond to incoming author requests via a centralized Bloomsbury A&P Author inbox. Triage author queries and escalate them to Product Marketing Managers and Marketing Leadership as needed. Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to update authors on where their requests stand and when they can expect to hear back.
  • Work with Product Marketing Managers and Digital Marketers to deploy emails to authors at agreed touchpoints to update them on marketing plans and activities.
  • Work with Product Marketing Managers to create a bank of responses to common author questions by product type and channel, optimizing Bloomsbury Academic's ability to communicate critical and timely information regarding their books and the promotions of their books.?
  • Assist in responding to author queries; liaise with appropriate departments to create an FAQ bank and canned responses to be able to respond to frequently asked questions.?
  • Deploy author surveys; gather feedback and report responses back to Marketing leadership.
  • Coordinate promotional materials to be sent to authors, such as flyers and bookmarks, on an as needed basis.
  • Conduct online market research on competing author programs to improve and differentiate Bloomsbury offerings.
  • Work collaboratively with marketing colleagues to coach authors on best practices to amplify their works to their target audience as published by Bloomsbury.
  • Establish, develop, and nurture positive, impactful, and lasting relationships with authors on behalf of Bloomsbury Academic to build brand equity in the author community.
  • Serve on the Author Steering Committee to bring the author experience and insight back to the larger Bloomsbury Academic group to improve on author experiences.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 1 to 3 years of experience
  • Experience or interest in the US higher education market
  • Understanding or interest in the academic publishing industry
  • Experience in working with authors or creators
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail?
  • Strong ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Innovation and creative problem-solving skills
  • Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Preferred
  • Strong creative and design skills
  • Familiarity with email marketing software e.g. Mailchimp
  • Experience with Canva
Location: Candidates must reside in the NY tri-state area, Washington metropolitan area, or California, and be able to commute to one of our office locations-New York City, Greenbelt, MD, or Santa Barbara, CA on a hybrid schedule (in-person 2 days per week).
