Marketing and Communications Manager

The Marketing and Communications Manager develops and manages the full spectrum of marketing and communication efforts for Yorktown Systems Group, Inc., and its wholly owned subsidiaries. This mid-level role builds foundational marketing strategies from the ground up, conducts market research, carries out promotional campaigns, identifies target audiences and evaluates current trends. The Marketing and Communications Manager will oversee all company social media platforms, website content, corporate branding, press communications, and event logistics for industry trade shows and conferences.

Reporting to the Vice President of People Operations, this is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position that requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution to set priorities, manage timelines, and produce high-quality content and collateral that supports the Company's brand, business goals, and customer engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing and Communications Manager

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Marketing Strategy & Planning
    • Lead the development and implementation of marketing strategies, aligning team objectives with broader organizational goals.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by applying deepening subject matter expertise to solve complex operational or strategic challenges.
    • Serve as the marketing function consultant, providing guidance, prioritization, and resource planning based on evolving business needs.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally to influence policies, processes, and practices that impact business outcomes.
    • Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices to shape marketing priorities and maintain competitive advantage.
    • Represent marketing in leadership forums, providing data-driven insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders
    • Create scalable marketing plans aligned with business development and corporate objectives.
    • Work cross-functionally to support proposal teams, recruiting efforts, and internal communications as needed.
  • Content Creation & Management
    • Develop, write, and manage external communications, including press releases, newsletters, corporate announcements, and award submissions.
    • In collaboration with Operations leadership, curate all creative content and marketing collateral.
    • Manage and update content across all company platforms, including websites, LinkedIn, and other relevant social channels.
    • Maintain and enforce brand consistency across all materials and messaging.
  • Social Media & Digital Presence
    • Own and execute the company's social media strategy to elevate brand visibility, highlight employee and project success, and engage key audiences.
    • Track engagement metrics and adjust content strategies accordingly.
  • Events & Trade Shows
    • In collaboration with executive leadership and business development staff, develop and carry out strategic themes that drive interest and engagement in the company's capabilities.
    • Plan, manage and execute logistics for industry trade shows and conferences, including booth design, printed materials, and promotional items.
    • Coordinate with vendors, register attendees, and represent the company at events when applicable.
    • Conduct post-event reviews that capture relevant metrics and successful outcomes, as well as opportunities for improvement.
  • Media & Public Relations
    • Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries and manage relationships with trade publications and industry outlets.
    • Identify and pursue opportunities to showcase company thought leadership and project wins.

Desired Attributes & Preferred Skills

    • Familiarity with government contracting language, industry norms, and proposal support.
    • Working knowledge of CRM or email marketing platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Mailchimp).

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field and 7 years of professional experience in a marketing or communications role, preferably in a B2B or government contracting environment; or
  • 10 years of professional experience in a marketing or communications role, preferably in a government contracting environment.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the highest level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments to support organizational objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships in a diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated team-oriented mindset with a willingness to contribute beyond individual responsibilities.
  • Exhibits continuous learning and evolving application of technical and professional knowledge to meet emerging challenges and opportunities
  • Experience with digital analytics and campaign reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and creative problem-solving ability.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Office, Canva, Vyond, or Adobe Creative Suite, website CMS (e.g., WordPress), and social media scheduling platforms (e.g., HeyOrca, Hootsuite, Buffer).
