Job Title: Manufacturing Manager
Location: Roanoke, VA
Reports to: Plant Manager
Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Manager is a key operational leader responsible for managing and optimizing daily manufacturing activities in support of plant-wide strategic goals. This role ensures efficient production processes, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and supports a culture of safety, quality, and employee development. As a senior leader within the plant, the Senior Manufacturing Manager partners closely with the Plant Manager and cross-functional leaders to align operations with corporate objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee daily manufacturing operations to ensure production targets, safety, quality, and cost goals are consistently achieved.
- Directly supervise shift managers, production supervisors, and key support staff, promoting a high-performance and collaborative work environment.
- Analyze and improve production workflows and resource utilization to eliminate inefficiencies and reduce waste.
- Identify and address production bottlenecks and critical operational issues, using data-driven decision-making and Lean/Six Sigma tools.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress, support goal-setting, and enable continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to enhance equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and drive process automation.
- Champion and enforce strict adherence to OSHA, environmental, and internal safety standards.
- Work with the quality team to uphold product standards and swiftly address non-conformances or customer concerns.
- Assist the Plant Manager in developing operational budgets, controlling costs, and identifying capital improvement opportunities.
- Mentor and develop plant personnel through structured training, coaching, and succession planning initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and operational excellence across the plant.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field strongly preferred.
- 7–10+ years of progressive manufacturing experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of managing teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Deep knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and operational best practices.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience in budget management and cost control.
- Proficient in analyzing production data, identifying trends, and implementing action plans.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across all levels.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience in the transformer or electrical manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
Work Environment:
- Role is primarily based on the production floor in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- May require extended hours, weekend support, or shift flexibility based on operational needs.
