Overview
We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join us at our Madison Facility. Our ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, possess innate leadership ability, and help ensure our manufacturing and maintenance departments support our overall business strategy.
This is a fully onsite role based in Madison, WI. Candidates must live in, or be open to relocating to, the area.
Responsibilities
Ensure manufacturing engineering and maintenance department strategies align with the overall business unit strategy.Manage, mentor, and develop teams of Manufacturing Engineers, Technicians, and Maintenance Supervisors, including task assignment, performance expectations, and evaluations.Lead budget estimation, design, and deployment of equipment and tooling projects, including vendor selection, negotiations, and installation.Supervise and coach maintenance teams to implement effective maintenance processes, including preventive and predictive systems.Possess industry and technical knowledge to direct equipment strategy and continuous improvement plans, with experience in automation, controls, electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and metal forming.Develop annual department goals and KPIs aligned with plant strategy.Utilize OEE metrics to drive equipment effectiveness.Support new product launches by improving machine capabilities.Lead problem-solving teams to address equipment issues and root causes.Act as local resource for facility maintenance, coordinating with the Facilities Manager.Drive continuous improvement activities focusing on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity, using methodologies like Lean, TPM, 6σ, etc.Manage departmental budgets, including expenses, tooling, and equipment support.Oversee plant capital spending and project justification.Process and review overhead invoices and budgets, ensuring compliance and alignment with financial teams.Ensure safety compliance and maintain departmental housekeeping standards.Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years leading manufacturing engineering and maintenance teams.
- 5+ years experience in manufacturing machine or process design, managing projects from concept to completion.
Knowledge:
- Practical application of engineering principles in manufacturing equipment design and implementation.
- Design techniques for automated control systems.
- Drawing standards for electrical and mechanical applications.
- Knowledge of machines, tools, and fabrication processes.
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, electrical troubleshooting, and electronic systems.
- Understanding of safety standards and regulations.
Skills:
- Technology design and systems evaluation.
- Complex problem solving and decision-making.
- Time management and active listening.
Abilities:
- Programming and troubleshooting PLCs and HMIs.
- Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
