Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer I will be responsible for the development of manufacturing processes and procedures. The role will be responsible for producing the documentation required to manufacture and maintain the various PMA products. The job involves analyzing problems and developing solutions to various complex engineering related problems. Specific areas of focus include working with manufacturing, quality, and product engineering to achieve continuous product and process improvements. Keys to success in this position are strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new skills and areas of the business. This position is an on-site position, located in Sturtevant, WI.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods.
- Develop the appropriate fixtures and work holdings for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing routings.
- Develop and maintain standardized work instructions.
- Coordinate continuous improvement efforts in support of current projects.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis and develop timely solutions for issues arising on current products and in the production processes.
- Coordinate with production personnel to ensure manufacturability, ease of assembly, and cost avoidance on new design and current products.
- Coordinate and implement Engineering Change Notifications on the shop floor.
- Assist in layout deign, ergonomic analysis, and time studies to implement process improvements.
- Facilitate process mapping exercises to drive continuous improvements throughout the organization.
- Perform cycle time / takt time analysis and line balancing exercises.
- Remove waste utilizing Lean principles.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
Intermediate Manufacturing Engineering Knowledge The Manufacturing Engineer I is considered a developing professional within the field.
- 0-3 years of experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment
- Performs assigned duties and responsibilities under supervision and with guidance
- Familiarity with SAP and computer aided design and/or engineering tools (i.e. AutoCAD, Creo, etc.)
- Proficient with MS Office applications
- Knowledge of / Education in Lean Manufacturing and Design for Lean Principals
- Strong teamwork skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong written and communication skills
- Delivers small projects under supervision and with guidance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an industrial manufacturing facility
- Experience with the manufacture of equipment for the construction industry
- Experience with SAP in a manufacturing facility
Education/Certification/Training:
- Entry level manufacturing engineer.
- Possesses a bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution or Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical engineering.
- The Manufacturing Engineer I is considered a developing professional within the field who performs the duties and responsibilities of a manufacturing engineer under supervision and with guidance.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and use hands to finger, handle or touch; frequently required to push and pull.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, peripheral, and the ability to focus.
Work environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in a typical office environment; occasionally exposed to noise, dust, and chemicals. Regular shop presence to observe assembly, mounting, testing and maintenance procedures.
Safety glasses/goggles must be worn at all times while in designated areas of shop.
