Job Description :

Macdonald & Company are pleased to be partnered with a privately held, vertically integrated real estate development firm focused exclusively on ground-up multifamily projects in Atlanta and the Sunbelt markets. The firm is seeking a Managing Director of Development to join its platform in Atlanta. This is a senior leadership position for an entrepreneurial real estate professional with a passion for sourcing and executing new development opportunities. The role will focus on site origination, LOI negotiation, entitlement strategy, and early-stage underwriting while collaborating closely with internal teams on project launch and execution.

This is a rare opportunity to join an institutional-quality platform at a formative stage of growth, with the ability to shape regional strategy and drive long-term value creation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and secure new ground-up multifamily development opportunities across assigned Sunbelt markets
  • Lead early-stage development efforts: market analysis, site identification, broker and landowner engagement, and feasibility assessment
  • Negotiate LOIs and oversee due diligence, entitlement planning, and initial consultant coordination
  • Collaborate with design, construction, and finance teams to underwrite and advance viable projects
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, municipal officials, and other regional deal sources
  • Partner with the National Director of Development and C-suite to inform expansion strategy, regional priorities, and competitive positioning
  • Represent the firm externally with professionalism and credibility

Qualifications & Experience

  • 12–15+ years of experience in ground-up multifamily development, with a track record of successful site sourcing and entitlement
  • Deep knowledge of Sunbelt growth markets and strong regional relationships
  • Proven ability to structure and navigate complex land transactions
  • Financial acumen and analytical capability to assess project feasibility and risk
  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, or a related field required; MBA or MRED preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills

If you're a seasoned dealmaker looking to make your mark within a fast-scaling platform, we'd love to hear from you. Please apply for confidential consideration.
