Associate Vice President / Head of Building Diagnostics, Forensics & Construction Consulting - West Coast

A respected consultancy in the built environment is exploring interest in a leadership role focused on building diagnostics and building science. This position is based in San Diego and offers the chance to lead a technical team working on complex building performance challenges.

About the Role:This is a senior leadership position overseeing a group of professionals who specialize in evaluating and improving the performance of building envelope systems. The Managing Director will guide technical delivery, mentor staff, and help shape the strategic direction of the practice.

Core Responsibilities:

• Oversee investigations into moisture intrusion, air leakage, thermal bridging, and envelope failures.
• Guide forensic analysis, litigation support, and expert witness services.
• Lead building science consulting for both new construction and existing buildings.
• Manage field testing, monitoring, and data interpretation.
• Mentor staff and contribute to strategic growth planning.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 10 years of experience in building diagnostics, building science, or envelope consulting.
• Active professional licensure required: PE (Professional Engineer) or RA (Registered Architect)
• Additional certifications such as RRC, RWC, BECxP, or LEED AP are a plus.
• Strong technical writing and client communication skills.
• Experience managing teams and delivering complex projects.
