The US market is central to VCLS's global growth ambitions, representing significant opportunities to deepen client relationships and expand our footprint. We are now seeking a dynamic, strategic leader to drive our US operations through the next phase of growth and investment.

Role Overview

As Managing Director, US, you will lead VCLS's Life Sciences consulting business across the United States, overseeing strategic growth, client engagement, operational excellence, and team development. You will represent VCLS in the marketplace, build high-level relationships with clients and key stakeholders, and drive ambitious growth initiatives.

With offices in Cambridge, MA and Somerville, NJ, and a team of approximately 30 professionals, this role holds full P&L responsibility for VCLS Inc. The Managing Director will also play a crucial role in positioning VCLS as the preferred HealthTech product development partner to US Life Sciences innovators.

Depending on experience and strategic contribution, the Managing Director may be invited to join VCLS's global Executive Committee. As such he/she will work closely with the CEO.

Key Responsibilities

Market Leadership & Strategic Growth

  • Define and execute the strategic vision for VCLS in the US, aligned with global goals and growth ambitions.
  • Lead business development efforts at the highest levels, building trusted relationships with senior leaders in Biotech, Pharma, MedTech, and the investment community.
  • Enhance VCLS's visibility and reputation across the US Life Sciences landscape through networking, thought leadership, and targeted engagement.
  • Supervise, grow, and mentor the US Business Development team, including recruitment, setting objectives, performance management, and regular reporting.
  • Promote initiatives that enable US-driven business development to support VCLS globally.

Operational & Financial Oversight

  • Full P&L responsibility for VCLS Inc., ensuring profitable, efficient, and sustainable operations.
  • Oversee project delivery and service quality, ensuring exceptional, compliant, and client-focused consulting outcomes.
  • Collaborate with global functional leaders to ensure effective resource management, high utilization rates, and avoidance of expertise duplication.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop the US team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence that reflects our PIPE values (People, Innovation, Passion, Excellence).
  • Partner with global HR and functional leaders to support employee development, engagement, and retention across the US organization.
  • Inspire and nurture the next generation of VCLS leaders within the US team.
  • Promote a global mindset, encouraging knowledge sharing and cross-border collaboration.

Participation in M&A activities and Integration of Acquisitions

  • Conduct market intelligence and competition analysis to identify potential US targets
  • Participate in engaging potential targets
  • Supervise the Integration of targets within VCLS services offerings and global operations

  • Senior leader with a proven track record in Life Sciences consulting, regulatory strategy, or related sectors, ideally with direct experience in high-level business development.
  • Established relationships within the US Biotech, MedTech, Pharma, and investment communities.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to define market positioning and growth pathways.
  • Inspirational leader, skilled at building, managing, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Financially astute, with P&L management experience and operational excellence.
  • Outstanding communicator with the gravitas to represent VCLS at industry events, client engagements, and global leadership forums.
  • Ability to balance global objectives with local execution.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Significant senior leadership experience in Life Sciences consulting, regulatory affairs[EV1], product development, or adjacent fields.
  • Demonstrable success in driving growth, client acquisition, and market positioning in complex, scientific environments.
  • Strong academic background in Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, or related disciplines; business qualifications an advantage.
  • Prior experience operating within international, matrixed organizations is desirable.
