Overview

Managing Director - Crisis and Humanitarian Staffing. An exceptional opportunity is available for a Managing Director (MD) to lead a newly launched division focused on Crisis, Humanitarian, and Emergency Staffing. We are seeking a dedicated professional with a background in emergency management and relief services to drive this division. The MD will lead the growth and management of our Emergency Response staffing division. This hybrid role, split between three (3) days in our NYC office and two (2) remote, combines hands-on business development responsibilities with leading an initial team. The MD will be responsible for driving new client acquisition, managing relationships with federal, state, and city agencies, and overseeing the performance of engagements to ensure divisional growth targets are achieved.

You will act as both a strategic leader and a front-line business developer, guiding your team in developing staffing solutions for disaster relief, humanitarian response, and public health crises, while ensuring operational excellence and profitability. In addition, the MD will be responsible for positioning the division as a market leader through brand development, digital visibility, and thought leadership initiatives.

Base pay range

$100,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr

Job Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Management
  • Manage and develop a team of two (2) sales staff, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to ensure staff are building pipelines, hitting sales goals, and adhering to best practices.
  • Conduct regular meetings and reviews to align team goals with division and company objectives.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture with an emphasis on client service and responsiveness.
  • Ensure proper documentation of client interactions, proposals, and outcomes.
  • Oversee reporting on key performance metrics, forecasts, and budgets, with P&L accountability for the division.
  • Serve as the public face of the division at conferences, trade shows, industry panels, and media opportunities.
  • Market and Brand Development
  • Conduct market analysis to understand staffing trends, workforce requirements, and the competitive landscape in emergency response staffing.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy targeting government, non-profit, and private-sector clients.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with agencies such as FEMA, DHS, HHS, and local/state emergency management bodies.
  • Create and deliver marketing campaigns to expand market share and brand recognition.
  • Collaborate with the corporate marketing team to produce web content, blogs, white papers, case studies, and thought leadership articles that reinforce the division's expertise in emergency staffing.
  • Develop and maintain a strong digital presence, including leveraging LinkedIn and industry platforms, to raise awareness of the division's capabilities and successes.
  • Work closely with communications teams to build the division into a trusted, recognizable sub-brand within the company.
  • Proposal & Contract Management
  • Lead proposal development efforts including RFP identification, bid management, pricing strategy, and compliance review.
  • Ensure timely submission of proposals in collaboration with marketing, recruitment, and finance teams.
  • Track and report on contract performance, incorporating client feedback to improve future proposals and service delivery.
  • Develop case studies and client success stories that can be repurposed for proposals and external marketing.
  • Client Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain relationships with key decision makers across government and relief organizations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, providing tailored staffing solutions for urgent and long-term client needs.
  • Manage client expectations, conduct regular check-ins, and identify opportunities for expansion.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to cross-sell additional division services.
  • Engage with professional associations and emergency management organizations to strengthen networks and increase the division's visibility.
  • Work with recruitment and HR to develop flexible staffing models and ensure rapid deployment of qualified personnel.
  • Translate client needs into actionable requirements for recruiters and internal teams.
  • Present tailored solutions demonstrating our ability to source and deploy personnel under urgent timelines.
  • Collaborate with marketing and recruitment to highlight talent success stories across digital and print platforms, enhancing the division's reputation as the go-to emergency staffing provider.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of business development and management experience, with exposure to government or relief staffing contracts.
  • Proven track record of building and managing client relationships and closing business in high-pressure environments.
  • Familiarity with FEMA, DHS, HHS, or other government contracting structures.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse teams and clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with a commitment to responsiveness and client satisfaction.
  • A high degree of professionalism and ability to protect sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to adapt to organizational and operational needs and lead people through change.
  • Experience developing and executing marketing, PR, or digital brand campaigns a strong plus.
