Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Controller, Utility Accounting, the Manager of Gross Margin & Regulatory Accounting is responsible for the accounting and analysis related to SJW Group revenues and production costs across all states.
This position involves direct supervisory responsibility for the daily activities of professional staff performing complex financial, accounting, reporting, technical accounting, and regulatory analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for accounting and analysis related to revenues and production costs across all states.Manage regulatory accounting, understand state-specific requirements, implement rate case decisions, and oversee current regulatory mechanisms.Oversee month-end close of gross margin and water accounting, including unbilled revenue, analysis, audits, financial reporting, and special projects.Manage a multi-state team: recruit, hire, train, develop, and evaluate performance.Prepare detailed monthly reports analyzing changes in revenue and costs, including rate filings, usage, customer growth, and weather impacts.Support rate case proceedings, including preparing filing schedules, responding to data requests, and participating in testimony as needed.Collaborate with FP&A to support budgeting and forecasting related to gross margin and regulatory accounts.Work with cross-functional teams to provide insights on gross margin performance.Establish, document, and maintain controls, policies, and procedures.Support and oversee applicable SOX controls.Assist in research, prepare accounting memos, and coordinate with external auditors.Support the implementation of new accounting standards.Contribute to special projects and workflow improvements.Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's degree and/or CPA preferred.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
- Minimum of five years of professional accounting experience.
- Experience with financial systems, spreadsheets, and databases; advanced Excel skills.
- Knowledge of integrated financial systems and experience with upgrades or implementations is a plus.
- Experience managing multi-location teams is advantageous.
- Relevant utility industry experience is required.
- Excellent analytical, reasoning, planning, and organizational skills.
- Proactive problem-solving and strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with meticulous attention to detail.
Location:
This role may be based at any of our subsidiary locations, including San Jose, CA; Clinton, CT; Saco, ME; or New Braunfels, TX, with minimal travel between sites.

Salary:
The salary range is commensurate with experience and location:
- California: $128,112 - $230,622
- Texas: $95,982 - $172,788
- Northeast: $118,116 - $212,568
