As Manager Of Billing And Payments Operations, you will lead our billing operations, optimize processes, and ensure excellence in internal and stakeholder interactions. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of the billing and payment insurance life, ensure compliance with SOX and internal operational controls, manage escalations, and lead initiatives that drive system enhancement. You will also be responsible for creating, tracking, and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and guide strategic decision-making. This role partners with internal stakeholders related to process excellence and resolution of technical issues impacting billing accuracy, while also driving high team engagement and performance.

What You'll Do
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing billing and payments team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.
- Communicate effectively across departments, influencing stakeholders and gaining alignment on priorities and initiatives.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for internal teams on billing-related escalations and complex issues, ensuring timely and satisfactory resolutions.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve billing and payment processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Lead billing-related initiatives, including advocating for and prioritizing development bug fixes with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, Product, Finance).
- Identify automation opportunities and adopt best practices to streamline workflows and reduce operational risks.
- Maintain compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and internal operational controls.
- Partner with Internal Audit and Finance to ensure process documentation, control testing, and audit readiness.
- Oversee development and ongoing maintenance of SOPs for payment operations, reconciliation, and escalation procedures.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment processing, reconciliation, and application across all systems.
- Implement preventive and detective controls to mitigate billing and payment errors.
- Define, create, and monitor KPIs to track team and process performance, proactively identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to senior leadership on billing accuracy, payment timelines, and operational efficiency.
- Handle escalated and complex cases from internal teams, resolving them with urgency and professionalism.
- Partner with stakeholders to understand pain points and drive solutions that improve both the internal and external customer experience.
This Might Describe You
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience in billing, payments, accounts receivable, or related operational functions.
- Proven experience managing a team in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong knowledge of SOX compliance and operational control frameworks.
- Proven ability to lead process optimization initiatives and deliver measurable efficiency gains.
- Proven track record of team leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Other Things To Note
- This position will be a hybrid role with a balance of time spent at our corporate office in Traverse City, Michigan along with opportunities to work from time to time remotely within the United States.
- Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
