Are you seeking a challenging and highly valued Division Chief role, overseeing a small team of accounting professionals who conduct investment accounting for portfolios (including real estate), employer billing and collections, and related internal controls compliance? If you are a results-driven financial professional with a passion for precision and strategic insight, we need you on our team!As a direct report to the Chief Financial Officer, this senior management position is responsible for overseeing the Office of Financial Management's Special Investment Accounting and Employer Accounting division. In this capacity, the position manages staff conducting daily monthly, quarterly, and yearly analysis; reconciliation; classification; reporting; collections; and related compliance of various accounting activities. This primarily involves related work for the Pension Fund's complex and diverse investment portfolio involving 400+ investment related partnerships and 760+ employer Fund related contributions.

The Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS, www.psers.pa.gov), is an agency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that administers the pension plan for Pennsylvania's public school employees. The mission of PSERS is to maintain a financially sound System that supports over a half million members with a current pension fund of approximately $80+ billion. This position will play a contributing part in ensuring PSERS fulfills its mission and values.PSERS is located in Harrisburg, PA, a mid-size city situated along the Susquehanna River. Teleworking is optional, with an occasional need to report to the Harrisburg office as operationally necessary. If requesting to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and be located in Pennsylvania. The Harrisburg area is affordable and near many attractions including Hershey, and it is only two hours from major cities and airports like Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework:You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of professional accounting or auditing and investment operations experience which includes three years of investment accounting or investment auditing experience, two years of which includes experience in domestic fixed income and domestic / international equities and either real estate, private equity or derivative asset classes; and three years of supervision in the auditing or accounting field; and a bachelor's degree, which includes or was supplemented by eighteen college credits in accounting. Experience in investment accounting or investment auditing must have been acquired within the last six years.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes at least three years of professional investment accounting or investment auditing or investment operations experience, two years of which includes experience in domestic fixed income and domestic / international equities and either real estate, private equity or derivative asset classes; and three years of supervision in the auditing or accounting field; and a bachelor's degree, which includes or was supplemented by eighteen college credits in accounting. Experience in investment accounting or investment auditing must have been acquired within the last six years.
  • A business-related master's degree or Certification as a Public Accountant (CPA) may be substituted for one year of general accounting or auditing experience.

Additional Requirements:

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Bachelors degree with seven or more years of relevant work experience in investment accounting
  • Three or more years of accounting related valuation and reconciliation work with investment portfolio holdings
  • One or more years of accounting related valuation and reconciliation work with real estate related investment portfolio holdings
  • Two or more years of supervision of investment accounting professionals
  • One or more years of accounting related experience accounting for partnerships and related management fees
  • One or more years of accounting with billing and collection
  • One or more years of experience in internal control compliance
